Give it a try before you completely butcher it because it's not an exact replica of the book. While the show differs from the books, it's exactly what it needs to be for a TV adaptation and it is brilliant. I love the actors/actresses, the storyline is fantastic, and it is still just as captivating as the book. I love that they brought it into more modern day as the books came out so long ago, but I grew up reading these books and when the movie came out I was so disappointed when they didn't continue the story with more movies - it happens too often for books that deserve it. This show is so much better than the movie though - it's just different!
I binged both seasons in the matter of days. Could not stop watching what was in front of me, didn't even pick up my phone to aimlessly scroll as we all have done watching shows before - it's a train wreck, but in the best way possible. Makes you want to jump through the screen and scream in some of the characters faces while also kinda wanting to give them a hug, but also set them on fire at the same time. The drama, actually jaw dropping, the acting, the twists! There hasn't been a show like this in a long time. It really makes you feel like you are in the toxic relationship yourself. Amazing - cannot wait for season 3!!!
I was upset when the movies were cancelled, and I was even more upset at the first few episodes of the first season - now I'm on season 2 and I'm in love. I hate that this was cancelled. I would have loved to see this show through to the end - the books had an amazing finale, some of best I've ever read. Maybe Cassandra will get another chance to bring them fully to life one day.
I thought the actors were perfect aside from Isabelle. Clary was annoying in the beginning of the first season but she was also pretty annoying in the books so I guess that's right on par. Jace. Was. Perfect. I enjoyed his character a lot more in the show than the movie.
The only thing I can say is the movie followed the first book almost to a T, the show is a little different - but it's necessary to make changes when you're putting out a show to keep viewers engaged.
