I've just started watching this on itvx after it first aired 41yrs ago n it still holds its own compared with modern updated police dramas such as Vera n Midsomer Murders. However it can change so quickly between scenes I can barely keep up 🙈
I agree with another review that it's rather gritty but can be tame in places where I'd like to see more graphic detail. The main character Wycliffe can be a bit wooden n staunch as are his Co actors who seem to drag their heels behind him.
The scenery is outstanding n it's visually appealing n mild.
It's keeping me entertained even though it doesn't take a genius to figure out who the murderer is.
I still recommend this as a good light entertaining detective series. Worth a watch!

Well.....it starts off as a run of the mill drama with brilliant cinematic views n the music is foreboding giving tension to the film. The scenery leaves you breathless.
The middle.....intriguing once the visitor arrives. A little dark n mystifying n the tension escalates. It left me holding my breath at times. It's very gripping.
The ending has a big twist but I'm not sure if I got the message therefore I'm confused or even if there was a hidden message 🤔😳 I was left with a lot of unanswered open-ended questions but I guess the viewer can make his or her mind up about the outcome.
It's left me astonished that this dark movie was totally made by one man! I have admiration for Ian Gordon.
I took 2 stars off for the open-ended finale.
