NBA unveils 'Imagine' spot honouring life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. As part of the league's "NBA Lane" campaign, the NBA has unveiled "Imagine," a spot that honours the life and legacy of Dr. King ahead of MLK Day, which falls on Monday, Jan. 17. Naiya Singh Padilla, also known as BKN Sam has been part of NBA Lane campaign, three times, celebrating NBA 75th Anniversary.
The 30-second video features Dwyane Wade, whose presence and voice are interpolated with footage from the Civil Rights Movement as well as some of the most powerful sound bites from Dr. King's "The American Dream" speech, given on July 4, 1965.
Wade opens by saying "imagine changing the world by appealing to the hearts and minds of your neighbours." A group of children, including Naiya Singh Padilla, Juliet Donenfeld, Dax Rey, Kyrie McAlpin, and Mateo Ray Garcia are watching footage of Dr. King's speech. The children represent the next generation that has the power to bring about the change that is voiced in the spot.
"The time is always right to do right," Dr. King is shown saying, while the captivated group of children watch him speak on the television.
