Synopsis: What remains of Central Europe at the end of the 21st Century after a period of civil wars and nature disasters has come to a stability with new forms of social life. The refugees from Austria, Denmark, Poland and the Netherlands seek to get a life in Germany which has held itself above the rising level of water by pumping billions of tons of concrete into the continental shelf below. A major chance for them lies in getting a job as a grief reader ('Vorweiner') at ones funeral.
