We feel really lucky to have Kaio Kathriner's unique creative lens on the roster at Workshop. 😁 Kaio brings a remarkable sense of ease to set—a quality that has been earned with his experience and commitment to the craft of filmmaking. Not only is he an outstanding director, but he also draws from years of experience across multiple departments. Kaio communicates wonderfully with actors, real subjects, crew, and partners, using his extraordinary ability to quickly extract the themes on the page and make them relatable to whoever he’s talking to. Kaio is a bilingual Swiss-Canadian director whose work spans commercial, documentary, and narrative filmmaking. Drawing inspiration from his rural Canadian upbringing, his stories explore themes of history, adventure, sport, and human conflict. His career has taken him across the globe—from Everest Base Camp to on-ice with NHL superstar Connor McDavid—delivering exceptional work for top-tier clients like FIFA+, NHL Studios, NBC Sports, Warner Music Canada, and Rolling Stone on Twitch. His short fiction film, The Day We Left, enjoyed an 18-month run on Crave and is now in feature development through Bell Media’s Harold Greenberg Fund. His debut feature documentary, The Last Stop: Canada’s Lost Locomotive, recently premiered at the Sudbury International Film Festival and continues to captivate audiences across Canada. This year, Kaio directed Life After Covid—a short documentary funded by Moderna Canada in collaboration with us at Workshop Film Company—that seeks to redefine MedEd. With his blend of documentary experience, top-notch technical ability, a knack for outdoor visuals, and the ability to capture real human connection, Kaio is one of the most exciting directors in our region. I always say, it's so much better to work with a smile. Our latest project with Bully Bunches made that especially easy… Working with dogs is such a joy—their innocence, mischievous nature, and just all-around cuteness made this shoot unforgettable. The team at Bully Bunches has so much passion for their products, and that passion infected the whole crew. It makes our job as storytellers so much easier when our partner truly cares about improving the lives of their customers - in this case the doggos. From their choke-preventing Bully Stick Safety Holders to their low-odor bully sticks and Himalayan Yak Chews that promote dental health, everything they create is thoughtfully designed for the well-being of our furry friends. This was a huge productivity booster for the whole team as lifelong animal lovers 🐶, and I have to give a huge shoutout to the amazing crew, dog owners, and of course the talent. We are totally in awe of our very own Eva Tavares for her amazing creative vision... She absolutely nailed directing this piece and we feel so lucky to have her on the team. 🚀 We’re now well into post-production, and we can't wait to share the final hilarious creatives. We know that these ads are going to help improve the lives of dogs, strengthen the bond between pets and their owners, and reach an audience that truly cares about their pets' health and happiness.
