Stand-up comedy

After completing college, Soresi moved to New York to pursue comedy and acting full-time.[14] In 2020, he released his first special, Shelf Life which prompted NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour to call Soresi "a distinctive comic voice... giving voice to our collective anxiety".[2][15] Soresi performed as a part of the "New Faces" showcase at the 2022 Just for Laughs festival in Montreal, which was hosted by Pete Holmes who called him on the 'You Made It Weird' podcast, "one of the funniest comedians in the world."[16] The Daily Comedy News Podcast said after that showcase that "he's the one to keep the eye on... he was absolutely fantastic".[17][18]

He has been called "one of the funniest people to grace the interwebs" by Comedy Cake,[19] "a true comedian" by Podcast Magazine[20] and in May 2022, Houston Press asserted that "Soresi is undoubtedly on his way up."[21] Soresi made his late night debut on the Late Late Show With James Corden on November 23, 2022.[22] He appeared on Netflix's Verified Stand-Up, which the New York Times covered, calling Soresi "a Jewish comic who alternates between silkily feline physicality and frenetic gesticulation."[23] In 2024, Vulture named him a "Comedian You Should and Will Know," saying "being as undeniably universal as Gianmarco Soresi requires an improbable combination of energy, productivity, and an ability to read the room... He is effusive and expressive, a chatterbox of ideas and reactions with dense stretches of jokes that draw the eye in the compressed, attention-strained landscape of vertical video. His material about current events plays well in that environment, as do his regular clips of crowdwork."[24] The Big Flop podcast host, Misha Brown declared him "the sexiest comedian of all time."[25]

In 2024 he introduced his somewhat recurring series, Theater Adult, which Front Mezz Junkies calls " a ridiculously engaging fun night of interview, musical theater, and comedy"[26] And Stage and Cinema says "he frenetically struts the stage with energy and confidence, slipping easily between his standup material and audience interaction. Having performed in the top comedy clubs and iconic NYC cabaret venues like Don’t Tell Mama and Birdland Jazz Club, Gianmarco is well-qualified to guide us through this hybrid event."[27] He is currently performing on his ongoing Leaning In tour, with dates in 15 U.S. states, the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Australia and the Netherlands.

Podcast

In addition to live comedy performances, Soresi also hosts The Downside with Gianmarco Soresi, an interview-based comedy podcast which Vulture hails as, "[finding] the sweet spot between funny and sad."[28] In a feature in Podcast Magazine, Kenneth Bator said of the podcast, "The art of comedy and the art of complaining are on display for all to enjoy".[20] The podcast hosts a diverse lineup of guests including Jerry Saltz, the Pulitzer-Prize winning art critic. Soresi made his art critique debut, to which Saltz noted, "That is one of the most beautiful reviews [...] that I've heard."[3]

Acting

As an actor, he has appeared in the film Hustlers and episodes of The Last O.G., Blue Bloods, and others.[29]
