The only way I could come close to that price point in my LD buying days was to join some kind of club (COLUMBIA HOUSE?) where i had to make a certain number of purchases in a certain time period.... complicating matters was that I had to have them shipped to my sister in law (at the time) in Indiana....necessitating a famdamnly visit more often than I would have liked...

The setup of my new gear has meant that I've had to rejig my room and get rid of few things in order to properly accommodate another set of speakers. I chucked a full size popcorn machine and lost a bookcase where I displayed the last media that I physically kept in my "media" room..lol.... the STARWARS FACES discs and a Japanese import LD of THE PHANTOM MENACE which i believe was the most expensive physical media purchase I've ever made.. actually the wife made that purchase for me as birthday gift many birthdays ago

That was around the peak when I was buying them. Most times I'd find deals for a dollar each online. A few times I found people who sold them just for the cost of shipping. Hardly anyone was collecting as dvd was building so much momentum then and no more new titles for LD. It was common to see posts of people getting rid of their entire collection and I bought several large lots that way, sometimes over 100+ at a time and shipped in multiple boxes. Unfortunately I got rid of a few thousand and the collection is much smaller now. It's interesting to hear of collector shifts; another poster said his collection was quite valuable in 2000 and it may have been really cheap, even free, just a few years later.

LaserDisc was the last format in which i would have considered myself a "collector" where I cared about the packaging and presentation of the format...beautiful gatefolds with plenty of real estate for "liner" notes etc....Once music and movies starting coming in rinky dinc 6 inch discs with its smaller packaging, i only ever cared about the actual presentation of the movie itself on my gear...

In all my time as a prime member, I've never seen a discount that blew me away. This year, my purchases were made as part of their buy 2 get 1 free sale.

I recently re-watched Chinatown on TCM. It's been a long while since I've seen it, and I had forgotten just how amazing this film is. And that bleak ending. Wow!

Smoking and driving are the two expensive things I gave up which means the savings made helps to afford to buy films and TV on physical media and follow my football club again by attending the games. I’m walking more and feel better for giving up the weed and getting out a lot more in the fresh air.

Everything is expensive really but we’re not on this planet that long so I say enjoy your passion whatever it is.

I’m looking forward to September and this 4K release and hope it sells well to quickly bring along a similar Frankenstein set.

Yeah, that’s the way I see it. Never been much of an outdoors person even, very much a home bird that loves my films, tech and peace and quiet.

Absolutely mate. That is one example where my introverted self can’t stay away from a crowd. I can’t wait for next season, signing players every few days and spent 115 million so far!

I’m the same at St Andrews. Looking forward to the new football season, not long now. Good luck to your team it’ll be tough but doable.

I think we will do it, for the first time in a long time, I have confidence in our owners and recruitment.

I think you will be the surprise package for championship, stuck a £10 on you going up.
