This is NEVER the point or the issue. It's not about a company taking our money and running. Sometimes we're just excited about a particular film that we happily give our money to the distributor, who says the item will be out by such and such date. That date comes and goes, sometimes by months. Sometimes there's an official update via social media, sometimes there isn't. It becomes a problem when the updates don't come, which is becoming more common. We all accept delays are common and will happen. Some of us are just anxious to spin the discs. It's not rocket science.

You know it’s bad when they finally do make a social media post and you still can’t trust a single word they say. I understand that it’s in the hands of the replicator, though. A replicator that lets all the elements and pieces lay around for months until they wake up one morning and finally decide to put it all together.

Honestly, I get being disappointed with delays - especially long ones. These days, when I do preorder things from smaller labels, I usually expect there to be delays. I’ve got so much on my “to watch” list that I don’t really worry about it — but I may be in the minority. |

Never met him, but honestly can’t say I’m surprised. I avoided the worst of their preorder debacles — but it sounds like they’re making Cauldron and some other labels look downright punctual.

My point was that better promise less and do more, than promise more and do less. But I am not pissed at the delays, and that delay is nothing compared to a few others from past years. |

To be fair, we knew the release date was originally April. Now we’re getting news it’s being finished by the end of July. That’s really only a 3 month delay which isn’t that bad if they had to add new audio tracks and subtitle files at the last minute. Of course they might have an extra month before these actually get delivered but I think the point stands.
I don’t have much of a problem with preordering either, we’re still reserving copies of a limited edition variant at an early price. That’s better than paying full MSRP once it’s fully released just to get it a little later than if it was preordered and locked in, not to mention with the risk of the limited edition selling out. |

Another crap excuse we hear open: to charge upon preorder to acuqire more titles. The solution is so simple. Don't. If you CONSTANTLY delay for months and it became a habit and only your die-hards seems to be okay. Please just don't aquire more titles. Plenty of lables out there are capable of the quality work while mean what they say about release date.

The problem with not pre-ordering that people are forgetting is that is how you get that 'SPECIAL' discount. Remember, the one that goes away after a certain time period. Cauldron, and they are certainly not alone, use this 'tactic' and yes, it is a sales tactic, to get you to feel like you are losing out on a deal if you don't pre-order. So many pre-order, because this is an expensive hobby and every penny saved is crucial for some. So if people want to save money, they HAVE to pre-order, which is unfortunate given what has been going on lately.
Again, put the listing for the title up when you either have it on hand, or it is on the way from the replicator. It's so simple, especially for a company with a bunch of strikes on it already. Hopefully going forward, this is what Cauldron does. |
