The Kino is good, the difference for me does not justify a double dip on this one.

That's understandable. I tend to be pretty OCD about it; knowing that an even slightly better version exists makes me much less inclined to watch the inferior one again, which defeats the purpose of owning it. But you have to pick your battles, I suppose.

I'll probably get this because the movie is a favorite of mine. I have the Kino and honestly I don't see a huge difference in the two. The Arrow does look slightly better but we're not talking dvd to blu comparison here. To each his own I don't fault anyone for buying or not buying we all have to consider what we spend and sometimes I'd rather wait for something coming out that's a big upgrade from what I have.

The PQ might be negligible but the audio is the real reason for the upgrade.

I am absolutely convinced I have spotted character actor Robert Costanzo in this movie, though I can't find him credited anywhere for it. It's a 12 second shot beginning at exactly 46:46. He's a cop carrying a portable CB. He's in the middle of the frame and hands the CB to Inspector Daniels (the great Julius Harris). It's like 12 seconds.
I believe it's him. He's the guy who gives John McClane a parking ticket at Dulles Airport at the beginning of Die Hard 2 who says he hates Los Angeles. Am I wrong? |

Played my disc last night. It's one of the few Kino 4Ks I didn't buy so can't compare with that. Thought it was pretty nice (if it's possible to describe the kind of realism seen in the visuals in this way) for the most part in DV. Also thought I noticed some slightly odd soupy effect in the grain in the interior of the train for a few scenes. Not complaining too much though when the occasionally bright colours (such as the blue police cars or the yellow tie worn by one of the main characters) and overall clarity look as good as this.
Watching Walter Matthau here does make me wish Charley Varrick would get a 4K at some point. |
