Bug summary:

Several users have reported issues when editing BNK files. Some of these issues include:

  • Improper playback of stereo audio streams
  • File misalignments when saving
  • Occasional file corruption (the games will crash trying to load)

Affected areas:

  • Vivianne app (crash)
  • Vivianne app (invalid data bug)
  • Vivianne app (visual styles, window rendering)
  • Output file corruption
  • Game Crash
  • Machine resource exhaustion (OS becomes non-responsive)

Repro steps:

  1. Go to '...'
  2. Click on '....'

Expected results:

BNKs should not be corrupted, playback should work for stereo streams and the games should not have any problem reading and using the audio streams inside.

Actual results:

As described on the summary, BNKs will have:

  • Improper playback of stereo audio streams
  • File misalignments when saving
  • Occasional file corruption (the games will crash trying to load)

Known workarounds:

No known realiable workarounds at this time.
Some issues with file alignment can be worked around by removing any alt streams on the BNK file, but might (or might not) cause file corruption. No way to tell why just yet.

Version information

  • OS: All supported versions of Windows
  • Vivianne: >= 1.0.0-beta.9
  • Game version: NFS3, NFS4
