Description

@ajcraig

Provide feature description below:

Goal: Describe the mechanism the WFM Client, within the margo enabled device, enrolls to the WFM to enable workload fleet management functionality.

Provide adequate technical acceptance criteria(s) associated with this feature below:

  • Must be compatible with the management interface mechanism
  • Must describe requirements on both sides of the interface to ensure both vendors are aware of what is expected
    • Certificates required
    • Rotation of certificates
    • detailed unique ID for entities
  • Must NOT eliminate the ability to automate this enrollment process for end users.
    • This is an "Opt in" item that both parties must agree to.
  • Must be secure to industrial automation standards
  • Must enable Long Term support mechanisms to comply with cyber resilience legislation
  • Must enable late binding functionality to ensure device owners can produce devices that are agnostic to the eventual WFM.

Although not required, it is highly encouraged to provide feature use-cases below:

  • The ability to either manual or automatically enroll an edge device within the WFM to enable workload fleet management within the enrolled edge
  • Enrollment is vendor agnostic to enable interoperability

Additional information

  • FIDO has been introduced as maybe a tool that can accomplish this automatic enrollment.
