Description

Thank you for your interest in writing a post! Please fill out the following information:

Your idea

Please describe the post you'd like to write in 2–4 sentences, and how that post would be a good match for The A11Y Project.

PAS 901:2025 is a new Publicly Available Specification (PAS), published by the BSI on 10th March 2025. The PAS seeks to help technologists and producers improve the accessibility of "products, services and systems" particularly, for those with speech and communication disabilities, for example stammers/stutters.

I would like to write a post that introduces PAS, who it aims to serve, what technologies are in scope, and point out some highlights from the standard.

People with speech difficulties have been poorly served by accessibility standards up to now, so I hope by publicising this new standard, it will promote change.

Outline (optional)

Optionally include a proposed outline for the post.

Additional information (optional)

Is there anything else we should know?

  • I have a stammer/stutter, so the post will come from a place of real interest.
  • As a developer, I've worked with speech recognition software, so I hope to bring some technical detail in.
  • Unfortunately, while the PAS is free (as in beer), you need to create an account on BSI to download it, as a PDF 5880 . I will quote from the PAS, but can't link to individual sections or points.
