FASM supports computer readable metadata called annotations in the fasm file.

We should specify a bunch of common stuff;

  • Target information
    • Which FPGA this FASM file is for
  • Tooling information
    • What tool + version generated this
    • Tooling arguments / parameters.
    • architecture checksums
    • (maybe) run time information (how long, how much memory, etc?)
  • Input information / "debug symbols" (?)
    • input netlist checksums
    • src code line mappings
    • netlist name mappings
    • path timing annotations
