make dependencyless?

I thought I remember this being dependencyless at one point in the past. It would be highly desirable to keep this library at 0 dependencies for the sake of simplicity. I have a minimal project I am building that I'd like to use this in, but first of all it is not flake based so I can't easily, and secondly the dependency closure is too heavy (I don't want to depend on nixpkgs lib)
