Description
I'm reviewing the errors flagged in the new version of the Lucullus (https://evt3-depa.silentwave.eu/).
One of the errors shows an encoding-related issue that needs to be addressed:
The error flag says: The following elements have a duplicated witness while intersecting each others: #μ,#Chis1
This is the XML:
<app
xmlns="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" from="#Luc-001-22" to="#Luc-001-26">
<rdgGrp cause="transposition">
<rdgGrp type="family-distinctive">
<rdg wit="#μ">florere maxime in foro potuit</rdg>
<rdg wit="#Chis1 #Reg">florere maxime potuit in foro</rdg>
</rdgGrp>
<rdg type="lectio.sing" wit="#Cant3">maxime in foro florere potuit</rdg>
</rdgGrp>
</app>
<app
xmlns="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0" from="#Luc-001-25">
<lem wit="#B #A #V #F #M #Ces #Laur1 #Laur2 #Nicc #Par9 #Vat4"/>
<rdg type="polygenetic" cause="diction" wit="#S #N #μ #ε #Ball_A #Bes #Cant2.2 #Cas #Chis1 #Erl #Harl3 #Linc #Matr #Neap #Pal #Pan #Par8 #Parm #Urb #Vat6 #Ven #Ven1 #Wro #ed.Rom #ed.Ven #Pen. #Bev. #Baz. #Min. #Asc.1 #Ald. #Asc.2 #Asc.3 #Crat. #Asc.4 #Herw. #Vict. #Sturm #Man. #Tal. #Lamb. #Dav. #Grut. #Ern. #Goer. #Reid #Plas1">maxime</rdg>
</app>
What causes the problem is clear. The <app>
note pertaining to Luc-001-25 distinguishes between witnesses that transmit maxime and others that transmit maxume (so, an issue of diction). Among those with maxime are Chis1 and the family μ. However, these witnesses are also referred to in another <app>
note pertaining to the string from Luc-001-22 to Luc-001-26, where the issue is transposition, but the same word maxime is involved.
I expect the same problem will be repeated with other similar instances.
We need to find a way to be able to include the same word within multiple <app>
notes: that was the point of using the stand-off apparatus to avoid the problem of overlapping variants.
Is this a matter of encoding differently? @RobertoRDT can you help?
Or does the software need to be trained to interpret this instruction correctly? @RenatoCaenaro
