The website at https://www.seas.upenn.edu/~ericoc/moss/ hosts microscopic images taken of moss using the:

FEI Quanta 600 Field Emission Gun (FEG) Mark II Environmental Scanning Electron Microscope (ESEM)

The moss was collected in northern Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA on the evening of Tues. May 20, 2025.

The following afternoon, on Wed. May 21, the moss was briefly frozen with liquid nitrogen (LN2) before being left to outgas under vacuum for an hour or two, in order to ensure that it was dry.

Thank you to the the Nanoscale Characterization Facility (NCF) at the Krishna P. Singh Center for Nanotechnology.
