You're meaning specifically UEFI firmware updates, right? You need an EFI system partition to trigger the update. If the system already has one I would expect fwupd would have used it instead of falling back to the USB key you were booted from. |

It failed to update an Ethernet controller in my particular case, it failed to uncompress it. Are you saying that an EFI partition is the only reliable space available and it is just too tight on my system? |

Ethernet controller shouldn't need space like that. To characterize what's going on, I suggest you restart the daemon in verbose mode on the live media and then share the daemon log while it reproduces. |

It probably does not make sense at first. Why would you want to update firmware using LiveUSB if you don't intend to install it? Anyhow, this is what you might get using Fedora 40 Live CD
USB or RAM usually has plenty of space to use....
It would be cool if fwupd was available on GParted Live distribution. Or, perhaps, distribute its own fwupd LiveUSB.
