Seeing following error with latest fwupd on Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS :
(fwupd) ubuntu22@ubuntu22-ThinkPad-P1:~/repo/fwupd$ fwupdmgr emulation-save scribe.zip WARNING: This package has not been validated, it may not work properly.
Authenticating… [ - ]
Could not check for auth: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1.Error.Failed: Action org.freedesktop.fwupd.emulation-save is not registered

Are you using the venv? The venv is supposed to offer to fix this for you as of f2097b5

Yes, I use venv. fwupd/fwupdmgr on separate terminal running under venv.
PolicyKit/DBus packages are up-to-date, and services running well. I also cleanup older *fwupd.policy and *fwupd.rules files. I do see that launch-venv.sh recreating them properly.
Tried recloning fwupd from the scratch. Tried running fwupd/fwupdmgr without venv (root) as well. Both emulation-save & emulation-load are failing. emulation-tag is working though. Perhaps it is not doing any file I/O? I do see empty zip file created when running emulation-save action.

I've seen this before when I had a .policy file installed into /usr/share/polkit-1, /usr/local/share/polkit-1 (that I'd forgotten all about) and the venv. Maybe check you've not got that one too. If that fails, just copy the generated one into the system manually -- it's only adding polkit actions and not removing them so it should be quite safe. e.g. sudo cp policy/org.freedesktop.fwupd.policy /usr/share/polkit-1/actions/
