Improve source code structure

The current structure of the codebase is not really welcoming or helpful for development or clear in general.
This is admittedly the result of the project outgrowing its hackathon beginnings.

We should split the methods and helpers into directories and filenames that give code more context, for example, splitting all VAST helpers into their own files and directory (where it makes sense).

Any suggestions are welcome!
