there are no good ways to store seekrits on shinyapps.io AFAIK (at least with a free account).
if the dashboard is basic enough (i.e. not requiring access to private repos) then the GITHUB_PAT won't be necessary and you can hardcode a username into the dashboard.
My local plan was to generate it every few hours and scp a file out somewhere as I've got a bunch of spare boxes to do that on ;-)
It's prbly possible to use Heroku or even some dynamic Amazon setup (Lambda can do R if you hack it via node.js) to automate said operation as well.
But, i'll ponder a way to deal with seekrits on shinyapps.io as well.
