A newer version of doxygen — I'm running 1.9.3 — might be used to update the Doxyfile.

$ date
fre 23 maj 19:36:12 CEST 2025
$ git clone -q https://github.com/libevent/libevent.git
$ sed 1q libevent/Doxyfile
# Doxyfile 1.5.1
$

I note the line count increases.

$ pwd
/tmp/libevent
$ doxygen --version
1.9.3
$ cat Doxyfile.bak | wc -l
259
$ cat Doxyfile | wc -l
2712
$
