Describe the feature

We should add some support for cdftime (whatever that is?) - handled currently in cdflib in our io - but may be a use case for parse_time

There is already https://cdflib.readthedocs.io/en/latest/api/cdflib.epochs_astropy.CDFAstropy.html#cdflib.epochs_astropy.CDFAstropy, so we could see about using that internally?

I think this needs some more code and examples etc. If someone opens a cdf file with cdflib what object(s) do they get back for the time? is it astropy time? is it something else which is trivially converted to astropy time?

just looking at our example gallery again, it would also be good to have a few more examples (or in the same one) of working with times within sunpy (i.e. using astropy time etc).

i've also pinged Nicolina about this, so hopefully she'll leave some comments here too
