Ideally I'd like to be able to have a lightweight tray icon as it was before , I dont really think a full GUI framework is needed, just a cross platform tray icon. How needed this is in linux for example is debatable, I personally would be OK running this as a systemd service and manage the app via a web client if ever needed

if it is relevant to this decision, i recently start using the "legacy" app and i notice like "WinNut-Client"
when you don't unlock the screen, the app won't start (Win10 - environment) and i think it's the same on win server enviroment.
(i don't have teste this behavior on linux)

another example i can share is like netbird handle this think:

  • you have the "user space app" (tray icon 7F52 , with a menu)
  • and the service (hundling all the connection, and you can call it form CLI)

so maybe the tray icon can be the fast way to access the web ui or reload the service or some utility stuff
for the user
