ICYMI, the FY24 Governmentwide Section 508 Assessment was released in December (check out the Executive Summary for the highlights). One of the annual metrics is how information and communication technology (ICT) is tested. ICT includes websites, intranets, and digital documents to name a few.
Teams reported testing ICT in a variety of ways, including manual code checks, Trusted Tester methods, and third party automated accessibility reporting. But many federal teams responded that they have “limited or no testing tools, and lack of testing personnel.”
For teams who use USWDS components, our accessibility tests allow anyone, even those with limited or no experience with accessibility testing, to assist in the auditing process. If one of your top visited pages uses the USWDS accordion, for example, you can use our accordion accessibility test checklist to ensure WCAG compliance.
Minor accessibility improvements for a single component can add up to big wins for your visitors. And each time you test a component you’re building accessibility knowledge. Win-win! What other accessibility resources would you find helpful? What types of testing resources do you find useful?
We'd like to update and refine the existing accessibility resources on our website, and your suggestions will help!
