Último Exhalario (2017) and Latitud 56 S (2018) available now!
Founded in 2014 in Santiago de Chile, Mourning Sun is an endless journey through the extreme South of the world in the form of an audiovisual portrayal that blends Atmospheric Doom Metal, Experimental, Electronica, and some traces of avant-garde, with slow and heavy sounds confronting clean female vocals. Lyrics convey obsession and affection for the Southernmost and its secrecy -evoking contemplation through spiritual insight- carefully pouring neologisms in English and Spanish to break the language and cultural barriers. Mourning Sun has built a strong sense of belonging for Latin American listeners and openness to the worldwide audience, bridging its motive in live shows with owned cinematographic projections. Mourning Sun is, at times, a mystical atmosphere of reverie - at others- a mournful trance of gloom and heaviness.
With its three first releases (VAHO EP, 2014), (Último Exhalario LP, 2017 - Pulsar 2018 nominee for Chile's Best Metal Artist), and Latitud 56 Sur (EP, 2018), Mourning Sun has transcended borders and undertaken three European tours, in 2016, 2017, and 2018, performing at renowned festivals such as the Metal Female Voices Fest (Belgium), Madrid Is The Dark (Spain), Under The Doom (Portugal), Autumn Souls of Sofia (Bulgaria), Metal Gates Festival (Romania), Dublin Doom Days (Ireland), as well as shows in Italy and the UK, sharing the stage with acts such as Sólstafir, Arcturus, Esoteric, Primordial, Mournful Congregation, Saturnus, Swallow the Sun -and Tarja, Leaves Eyes, Lacuna Coil, and Tristania -among other female-fronted bands. As a result, Mourning Sun made itself a name in the Chilean and international Doom Metal scene. Mourning Sun has also performed as the opening act for Gorgoroth + Acheron in 2017 (Chargola Prod), Leprous in 2019, and Samael in 2020 (Spider Prod).
The 2020-2021 world lockdown brought Mourning Sun into a new creative process. 'Bahía Desolación,' mixed and mastered by Jaime Gómez Arellano (Paradise Lost, Ulver, Mayhem, Myrkur, GGGOLDDD, Behemoth, Ghost, Vltimas, Oranssi Pazuzu, Hexvessel, among others), will be their next release, in 2023.
The album Bahía Desolación was presented to the Chilean Ministry of Culture to finance its production, with 100% of the fund awarded for its proposal. It was recorded at Estudio del Sur, Audiocustom, and CHT Estudios and mixed and mastered at Orgone Studios (UK).
