Ugly Mac Beer made his debut in the late 90s as a DJ for the group La Formule, alongside Wax Tailor. In the 2000s, wishing to develop his own projects, he embarked on a solo career.
Quickly, he established himself as a prominent figure in the French turntablism/scratch music scene, both as an artist and as a prolific independent producer with his label Beatsqueeze Records.
In the mid-2000s, he began collaborating with the digger/beatmaker Mister Modo. From this chemistry arose a series of projects marked by numerous international collaborations with big names in the culture such as MF Grimm, Kool Keith, Psycho Les (Beatnuts), Guilty Simpson, Mike Ladd, El Da Sensei, Dj D-Styles...
In 2009, the release of the album “Modonut” received significant media exposure and real success with a broader audience. The track "Not Afraid ft Jessica Fitoussi”, with its 70s soul accents, was widely played on radio and allowed the duo to be broadcast internationally. The duo's second album, simply titled "Modonut 2," was released in 2012 and gave birth to a hip-hop banger "Diggin in the Crates" (ft F.Stokes) praised not only by DJs in Europe but also in North America.
Increasingly sought after in the advertising and cinema world for image synchronization, Ugly Mac Beer discovered a passion for audiovisual work. Inspired since always by television, pop culture, cinema, and music at large, he has found his place today as a full-time composer of music for visuals.
Nothing dampens the turntablist's passion as he continues to expand his vinyl collection and develop new projects. In 2023, he returned with a new solo album titled "The Valley of the Kings." An instrumental concept album of "Abstract Hip Hop", a true project of sampling enthusiast, conceived and crafted as the soundtrack to a retro- futuristic movie.
In 2024, Ugly Mac Beer presents his new project titled "Broken Ill," merging his US hip- hop influences with UK sounds ranging from synth-punk, post-punk, electro-punk, to new wave.
Venturing into more rock productions, Ugly Mac Beer demonstrates that he is much more than just an excellent beatmaker. He thus proves his versatility and ability to innovate beyond the borders of his preferred domain.
