The following contains spoilers for The Wheel of Time Season 3, Episode 5, "Tel'aran'rhoid," now streaming on Prime Video.
As much as The Wheel of Time is a fantasy series full of epic battles of swords and magic, there is a deep political subplot that weaves its way throughout the series. Season 3, Episode 5, "Tel'aran'rhoid" moves the focus off of Rand and onto Egwene, the White Tower and the Two Rivers. The Aes Sedai are masters of playing political games -- and this episode goes to great lengths to highlight the true darkness that is in the White Tower. While it does feel like a slight dip in momentum, "Tel'aran'rhoid" is still a strong episode, just in different aspects.

The third season of The Wheel of Time is chugging along over on Prime Video, and we are loving it. There's a lot to like about the series, whether it's the expanding world, the endearing characters, the thrilling special effects, or the diverse cast. A lot of epic fantasy stories are set in places vaguely based on medieval England, but The Wheel of Time books by Robert Jordan took inspiration from all sorts of cultures, which means that the producers looked at actors from all over the world when it came to casting. In fact, when we asked new cast member Shohreh Aghdashloo (Elaida) what about the show had impressed her most, she named its "diversity."
"It's one of the most diverse, global shows I've ever been in, and I just love the fact that it has millions and millions of followers and fans, and the fact that it is aired all over the world,...

The Wheel of Time is in the thick of its third season, and things are heating up for Prime Video's fantasy series. Last week the show aired "The Road to the Spear," its tour de force mid-season episode where Rand al'Thor (Josha Stradowski) and Moiraine Damodred (Rosamund Pike) journeyed into the mist-covered Aiel city of Rhuidean. There, they each went on separate vision questions: Moiraine saw thousands of horrific possible futures while Rand relived key events in Aiel history through the eyes of his ancestors.
The result was one of the most powerful episodes of The Wheel of Time to date. But the season is just getting warmed up. Since we spent the entirety of "The Road to the Spear" with Rand and Moiraine's party in the Aiel Waste, there will be a lot of other storylines to catch up with when the next episode, "Tel'aran'rhiod," comes out, including...

In celebration of Nowruz, we visit an often undersung film in Iranian cinema. Though hailed as the precursor to Asghar Farhadi‘s “A Separation” (2011), Abbas Kiarostami‘s “The Report” (“Gozaresh“) has been seldom written about in the legendary director’s oeuvre. This is somewhat surprising, considering that Kiarostami’s first feature includes icons in today’s landscape of New Wave Iranian cinema: prolific cinematographer Alireza Zarrin Dast; Oscar-nominated Shohreh Aghdashloo; and least to say, Kiarostami himself. The film is fascinating as a time-capsule, too. In this glimpse of pre-1979 Revolution Tehran, we see a pinhole view into a world that no longer exists.
“The Report” observes the middle-class world of civil servant Mahmad Firouzkoui (Kurosh Afsharpanah) crumble within a week. At work, he is pardoned from his job after an accusation of bribery. At home, his young but often neglected wife, Azam (Shohreh Aghdashloo) threatens...

The third season of The Wheel of Time is off to a fantastic start on Prime Video. The streaming service released three episodes last week, and they didn’t disappoint.
Although the show is scrambling the events from Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time book series a bit, these episodes did a good job of making that change relatively seamless without losing any momentum built up during the action-packed finale to season 2.
Without focusing too much on the differences between the books and the show, audiences can appreciate the visual smorgasbord the show delivers with aplomb. So far, The Wheel of Time is a prime example of how a quality fantasy story can be told on the small screen.

The Wheel of Time season 3 episode 3, “Seeds of Shadow,” is the best episode of the season to date, and it begins with some major reveals and incredible scheming on the part of Lanfear, Sammael, and Rahvin, who is playing his part quite well.

This week, Prime Video premiered the third season of The Wheel of Time, its sweeping epic fantasy series based on the books by Robert Jordan. Out of the gate, it's become obvious that this is a much darker, more complex chapter for Amazon's fantasy show. There are new villains, the heroes are facing more difficult challenges, and factions are rising and falling.
There's a lot of that going on in the White Tower, the stronghold of the Aes Sedai sorceresses in the city of Tar Valon. Two out of the first three episodes of the season had the tower taking some serious hits. In the premiere, Liandrin Guirale (Kate Fleetwood) and her fellow Black Ajah defectors turned the inner sanctum of the tower into a battleground as they fought their way out of the city. Then in Episode 302, Queen Morgase Trakand (Olivia Williams) arrived to demand answers for the abduction...

In the explosive premiere of The Wheel of Time season 3, Rand and Moiraine begin their journey to the Aiel Waste instead of Tear with Egwene, Lan, and Aviendha in tow. Meanwhile, the rest of those in Tar Valon and beyond deal with the fallout of the Black Ajah’s attack on The White Tower.
The Wheel of Time season 3 episode 2, "A Question of Crimson," begins many years earlier as the Queen of Andor, Morgase of House Trakand (Olivia Williams), murders those who would challenge her throne at Elaida Sedai’s (Shohreh Aghdashloo) urging. You might recognize the Trakand name because Morgase is actually Elayne’s mom.

Talk about flying by the Amyrlin Seat of our pants. The Wheel of Time did not miss an opportunity to kick things off with a magic-packed bang.
What started as a fantasy series that kept it light on the magic side compared to some ill-fated Netflix shows, yet more so than a few other HBO and Max series, has kept the flow of mystical elements consistently strong.
When you tune in for The Wheel of Time, you know you are going to get at least three things: fun uses of magic, expansive scenery of wherever the characters are walking, and magic-wielding women with more than a few screws loose.

The first three episodes of The Wheel of Time are out now on Prime Video, bringing viewers back into the vivid fantasy world of Robert Jordan's beloved book series. We've been poring over them this morning, because these are three very full episodes. The first, "To Race the Shadow," saw all hell break lose in Tar Valon as the sisters of the Black Ajah made good their escape, before Rand al'Thor (Josha Stradowski) and the rest of our heroes went their separate ways. The second, "A Question of Crimson," delved into the complicated politics of the White Tower as Queen Morgase (Olivia Williams) and her advisor Elaida (Shohreh Aghdashloo) arrived on the scene to demand answers of the Amyrlin Seat, Siuan Sanche (Sophie Okonedo).
Now we've arrived at the final episode of the premiere block: "Seeds of Shadow." And just as the name implies, this episode gives the show's...

The binge through the first three episodes of The Wheel of Time season 3 continues! Today, Prime Video dropped the mega-sized premiere block of its epic fantasy show's third season, and it is a veritable feast for fans of the series. All three episodes clock in at around an hour or more, and contain a ton of new developments for our heroes and villains.
The first episode, "To Race the Shadow," mostly caught us up with all the characters we already knew and loved from last season. Now that the stage is set, "A Question of Crimson" introduces a bunch of new ones; most notably, the royal family of Andor, led by Queen Morgase Trakand (Olivia Williams), the mother of Elayne (Ceara Coveney).

The Wheel of Time is back for Season 3 on Prime Video, and audiences are eager to see how Rand's quest as the Dragon Reborn continues to unfold. Season 3 offers a strong start with a plethora of new characters and locations. It can always be difficult to balance the stories of so many characters, which is why The Wheel of Time feels as if, in some ways, it has strayed further from the books than ever. Yet, this does not diminish its ability to create some of the most compelling fantasy TV of its time.

The Wheel of Time simply keeps getting better and better! The first season was entertaining, but you could see how Prime Video was finding its footing in the classic fantasy genre—almost using the Robert Jordan series as a test balloon with The Lord of the Rings television adaptation coming down the pike (pun intended).
Star Rosamund Pike led the way, keeping viewers’ interest through a bumpy but very entertaining freshman season. Then, the second season focused on the supporting cast, creating greater adventures, enthralling action, and a wholly immersive experience unlike any fantasy television series we have ever seen.
Now, the third season is a game-changer—full of clever twists, turns and shadowy tricks that keep viewers on the edge of their seats! With an exciting and suspenseful season premiere and an ominously powerful finale, The Wheel of Time proves it keeps getting better with each passing season.

Plot: After defeating Ishamael, one of the most powerful of the Forsaken, at the end of Season Two, Rand reunites with his friends in the city of Falme and is declared the Dragon Reborn. But in Season Three, the threats against the Light are multiplying: the White Tower stands divided, the Black Ajah run free, old enemies return to the Two Rivers, and the remaining Forsaken are in hot pursuit of the Dragon… including Lanfear, whose relationship with Rand will mark a crucial choice between Light and Dark for them both. As the ties to his past begin to unravel, and his corrupted power grows stronger, Rand becomes increasingly unrecognizable to his closest allies, Moiraine and Egwene. These powerful women, who started the series as teacher and student, must now work together to prevent the Dragon from turning to the Dark…no matter the cost.

The wait is almost over! On Thursday, March 13, Prime Video will premiere season 3 of The Wheel of Time. The streaming service is promoting it more than it has in the past, and this could be a make-or-break season for the fantasy show.
The Wheel of Time is one of two epic fantasy shows on Prime Video, with The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power being the other. The Rings of Power has a bigger budget and has more promotion, but The Wheel of Time is the better series.
The Wheel of Time is based on the massive 14-volume book series by Robert Jordan (and finished by Brandon Sanderson). The first tome, The Eye of the World, was published in 1990 and the final book, A Memory of Light, in 2013.
The first two seasons of The Wheel of Time TV show covered books one and two, with some storylines from later books bleeding in.

Rosamund Pike has confirmed that The Wheel of Time Season 3 will make some changes to the book’s storyline, specifically delaying Rand al’Thor’s journey to the Stone of Tear. The new season, set to premiere on March 13, 2025, will follow Rand (Josha Stradowski) as he travels to the Aiel Waste before retrieving Callandor.
Pike explained that this adjustment was made to better translate Rand’s internal struggles to the screen. Instead of heading straight to the Stone of Tear, the show will send Rand into the Aiel Waste first, allowing him to discover his heritage and identity before obtaining the powerful sa’angreal. While the Stone of Tear remains an important part of the story, its placement has been shifted to better fit the TV adaptation.

The Wheel of Time season 3 is nearly upon, and if the thrilling first minutes we've already seen are any indication, it promises to be the fantasy television event of the year. Based on the hit book series by Robert Jordan, The Wheel of Time tells the story of a fight between good and evil on a grand scale, and the many heroes and villains caught up in the mix. Like the books, the show has a sprawling cast where each character gets their own moments to take the spotlight and pushes the narrative forward in unexpected ways.
Two characters we'll be seeing a lot in season 3 are Lan Mandragoran (Daniel Henney), the warder for Rosamund Pike's Aes Sedai sorceress Moiraine; and Siuan Sanche (Sophie Okonedo), the leader of the Aes Sedai and Moiraine's secret lover. What Did Nicolas Cage Say About Eating A Live Cockroach? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
While filming the 1988 black horror comedy Vampire’s Kiss, Nicolas Cage made a bold (and stomach-turning) decision. His character, Peter Loew, a delusional literary critic who believed he was a vampire, originally had a scene where he was supposed to eat a raw egg. But Cage had other ideas. “I thought eating a cockroach would be more effective,” he told Yahoo Entertainment. “I’ll never do that again. I’m sorry I did it at all.”
That wasn’t a one-take horror. He had to do it twice. Twice the crunch. Twice the regret. Vampire’s Kiss, directed by Robert Bierman, wasn’t exactly a smash hit. Despite Cage’s mind-boggling performance and a cult following, the film tanked at the box office. It did, however, cement Cage’s reputation for fully committing to roles – sometimes to extremes.

The cast incorporated María Conchita Alonso,...

Prime Video has debuted the first trailer for ‘The Wheel of Time’s’ upcoming third season, which will debut globally on 13th March 2025.
In the series, a humble farm boy, Rand al’Thor, learns he is The Dragon Reborn—a dangerous figure from history destined to save the world … or break it. The Wheel of Time turns, and the Last Battle approaches. After defeating Ishamael, one of the most powerful of the Forsaken, at the end of Season Two, Rand reunites with his friends in the city of Falme and is declared the Dragon Reborn.

Thank the Light! The first trailer for Prime Video's The Wheel of Time Season 3 has just been released, and it's a doozy. Set to premiere on Mar. 13, the third entry in the series adapted from the books by Robert Jordan takes us to all new places, and introduces us to new characters like Elaidado Avriny a'Roihan, portrayed by Shohreh Aghdashloo.
Mostly adapting the fourth book in Jordan's series, The Shadow Rising, the trailer for The Wheel of Time Season 3 that was released online today (seen below) showcases what we can expect in March. Rosamund Pike's Moiraine Damodred and Josha Stradowski's Rand al'Thor are front and center as they head to the Aiel Waste, and there's no shortage of action and magic, of course. In addition to Elaidado Avriny a'Roihan, new characters also introduced this season include Faile (Isabella Bucceri), Bair (Nukâka Coster-Waldau), Melaine (Salóme Gunnarsdóttir), Rhuarc (Björn Landberg), and Melindhra (Synnøve Macody Lund.

A couple months after a juicy teaser, Prime Video has finally released the full official trailer for The Wheel of Time season 3, and it is, in my humble opinion, looking delicious. Take a gander below:
When last we left our heroes, Rand al'Thor (Josha Stradowski) had declared himself as the messianic Dragon Reborn for all the world to see, which is going to cause some major ripples. Some people will want to follow them into the Last Battle against the Dark One, some want to control him, others to kill him.
This all leads to the events of The Shadow Rising, the fourth book in Robert Jordan's epic fantasy series and widely considered one of the best. I see lots of big moments from the book in that trailer I know fans are eager to see, including:
Turmoil within the White Tower of the Aes Sedai. Elaida, an Aes...

One of the best science fiction series of modern times is sadly gearing up to leave Prime Video. Beginning back in 2015, The Expanse, which started life on SyFy before being picked up for more seasons on Amazon, is now listed among the streaming platform’s "Titles expiring in the next 30 days.” Meaning that fans and newcomers only have a short time to catch up on this show, which boasts a score of 95% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Created by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby for the Syfy network initially before being canceled and picked up by Amazon, The Expanse is based on the series of novels of the same name by James S. A. Corey. The DC Universe has a lot of films and series that may require a rewatch or two in order to get the most value out of them, for one reason or another, changing significantly on a second viewing. Compared to other superhero properties, DC movies and TV shows seem altogether more willing to take risks with their production, not content to sit back and reap the rewards of a "safe" narrative custom-built to please fans. Whether this is a good or a bad thing remains up in the air, as revisiting certain DC projects can often reveal.
DC movies and TV shows can change dramatically on subsequent viewings for one reason or another. Some rich narratives simply require multiple viewings to get the full amount of enjoyment out of, whereas others are more interesting with the context of future films or behind-the-scenes drama that is more clearly evident the second time around.

Comic book films and television adaptations are rarely recognized at major award shows, but that trend has been challenged in more recent years with the groundbreaking Spider-Verse films and the McU's Black Panther movies. Colin Farrell adds another accolade to the genre with his Golden Globe win for Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Limited Series for his portrayal of Oswald Cobblepot in The Penguin.
Colin Farrell's co-star Cristin Milioti was also nominated for a Golden Globe, but she lost to Jodie Foster for her role in True Detective: Night Country. The Penguin was also nominated for Best Television Limited Series alongside heavy hitters like the aforementioned True Detective: Night Country and Netflix's Baby Reindeer, with the latter taking home the award.

Theo Rossi's Dr. Julian Rush quickly emerged as one of The Penguin's most intriguing supporting characters; he was also a complete creep and someone with a weird, unhealthy infatuation with his former - and, as it happened, current - Arkham patient, Sofia Falcone.
Rush was an original creation for the series and, contrary to online theories, wasn't ultimately revealed as Dr. Hugo Strange. However, evidence later surfaced (which you can see below) suggesting he was either meant to be Dr. Jonathan Crane or at least someone with close ties to Scarecrow.
The Penguin's fourth episode - "Cent'Anni" - featured both Scarecrow's mask and his syringe glove on two stands.
Given the obvious similarities between Bliss and Scarecrow's fear drug, could The Batman 2 reveal that Crane is secretly working in Arkham under the fake moniker of "Julian Rush"? Unfortunately, the popular suggestion has just been debunked by showrunner Lauren LeFranc.

HBO's The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc has reacted to a popular fan theory about one of the show's characters. Many have speculated that Theo Rossi's Dr. Julian Rush is actually a version of DC Comics' Dr. Jonathan Crane/Scarecrow, one of Batman's most enduring villains.
In The Penguin, Rossi's character, an Arkham psychiatrist, is an ally of Christina Millioti's Sophia Falcone, a former patient of his. In Episode 4, a strange scarecrow-like mask and a needle-finger glove can be seen in Julian's office, with many fans believing they hinted at the character's true identity and source material origin. LeFranc was recently on the Golden Globes carpet where she addressed if Dr. Julian Rush was indeed the ReevesVerse's version of Scarecrow. "Well, I can say he's not the Scarecrow," she said, dousing hopes fans will get to see Rossi don the mask and unleash his fear toxin on Gotham City.

The Penguin was billed as a limited series but amid rave reviews and record-high viewership for HBO, there was chatter about a possible season 2 before the finale even aired.
We'd expected that to bridge the gap between The Batman 2 and The Batman 3, but with the former pushed to 2027, there's a chance The Penguin could reach us before Matt Reeves' sequel.
Talking to TVLine on the Golden Globes red carpet yesterday evening, executive producer Dylan Clark confirmed that there have been "quiet conversations" about bringing the award-winning series back for another season.
"If we could come up with an idea for what a second season might be, there’s a chance that [HBO CEO] Casey Bloys and the HBO team would want to pursue that," Clark said. "There have been quiet conversations about that."
The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc later said, "I mean, you know, I wrote it as a limited series.

After winning a Golden Globe for his performance in The Penguin, Colin Farrell has earned a distinction only a few DC villain actors have before. Namely, both Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix won Golden Globes for their performances as the Joker in The Dark Knight and Joker, respectively. In a press conference, Farrell addressed joining this club of talented actors:
Two-one to the Joker. Two-one to the Joker takes it. No, I mean you mentioned two actors who are, I think, for my money, two of the most extraordinary, talented, gifted, and just brilliant artists in film that I've ever had the fortune to observe and be affected by, you know. What Heath did in Chris Nolan's Dark Knight was extraordinary and will live on for future generations. And what Joaquin did with Joker was—as exemplified by all the awards that he won and the Oscar—extraordinary. He was so special,...

The Penguin's Colin Farrell took home a Golden Globe for "Best Male Actor in a Limited Series," after continuing his role of Oz Cobb/The Penguin from The Batman. During his acceptance speech, the actor shouted out showrunner Lauren LeFranc, costar Cristin Milioti, and The Batman director, Matt Reeves, quipping that the latter would "kill [him] if [he doesn't] thank him." Farrell also thanked the hair and makeup team responsible for his transformation into the Penguin, which he stated took three hours, and joked about continuing to wear prosthetics for the role "from here on out."

Showrunner Lauren LeFranc addresses The Penguin's success and reveals whether she would like to make a similar project centered around another DC character. The Penguin is the first spinoff in Matt Reeves' The Batman universe. Although Robert Pattinson's Batman doesn't appear in The Penguin, the series continues to build the gritty Gotham City established by 2022's The Batman, and subtly sets up Matt Reeves' The Batman - Part II with a deeper look into Gotham's criminal underworld and a shake-up in the hierarchy of the city's organized crime.
Speaking to ScreenRant at the 2025 Golden Globes, The Penguin showrunner Lauren LeFranc expresses her satisfaction with the show's overwhelmingly positive reception. LeFranc defends The Penguin's limited series nature and confirms that a direct follow-up will only be made with "the right idea or the right characters". LeFranc also says she would "be honored" to helm a new project in Matt Reeves' The Batman universe,...

Though The Penguin followed Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/The Penguin, Cristin Milioti stole the show as Sofia Falcone. Wrongfully sent to Arkham asylum by her father, mob boss Carmine Falcone, she is out for power and revenge, and Oz is a major obstacle on her way to dominating Gotham's criminal underworld. While The Penguin is arguably Oz's show, audiences were captivated by Sofia and her tragic life story, which ended with her back in Arkham Asylum.
Naturally, that brings the question: What's next for Sofia? Recently, Milioti spoke with IndieWire about her character's future:
It just seemed like there are infinite possibilities of where she could go. Obviously I would want to see her get out of Arkham. That’s like number one. I don’t want her in there. So I want to see her get out there, and then exact revenge. Maybe now she would be even more of a loose cannon,...

The Penguin is a career highlight for Cristin Milioti, whose breakout performance in the show earned her a huge following. The actor explained why she was apprehensive during filming.
Cristin Milioti said playing a recurring character in TV shows came with unique anxieties. These were not evident in her performance as Sofia Falcone in The Penguin, but the actor confirmed she was worried that she wouldn't do her character justice. "I was nervous about what it would be like to work in a giant franchise, because I've never experienced that before," she told IndieWire. "I was nervous about being bad. I was nervous that the swings I was taking would be embarrassing, sort of your run-of-the-mill shame tornado, kind of everything and anything." She confirmed the fear only subsided when they were deep into filming.
