"Oakland was hella freaky." That's the tagline of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's California-hazy thriller Freaky Tales, a social-savvy anthology about 1987 Oakland—with a supernatural bent. The film loves to throw around the word "freaky," whether rap battles or wraparound narrations, but the film's problem is the overpromise of genre elements. Boden and Fleck tackle racism, Nazis, predatory law enforcement, and a host of other injustices throughout for stories connected by neon-green thunderbolts in the sky, but it's an exhaustingly flat marathon of inconsequentiality. Stories are desperately linear while genre elements make no sense in context, like a haphazard take on Tromaville that's somehow less sensical.
Freaky Tales is a story of punk rockers defending their concert venue, ice cream scoopers who dabble as verbal assassins, a debt collector pulled back into the business (Pedro Pascal), and NBA All-Star Sleepy Floyd (played by Jay Ellis). They're overlapping stories with interconnection spread like a web,...

There have been a lot of rough DC Comics movies but which ones are truly the worst of the worst?
DC started early on the superhero movie trend with 1978’s Superman and later 1989’s Batman. However, despite successes like Wonder Woman and Aquaman, the Dceu faltered compared to the MCU. Somehow, Warner Bros and DC couldn’t make it all work right and it all came to a lame ending.
There have been some pretty poor to outright bad movies based on DC Comics such as Batman v Superman or The Flash. However, there are several films that stand out for how truly awful they are and leave us thinking they shouldn't have happened. They waste great casts and story potential while also being just flat-out terrible movies.
Here are how the ten worst DC Comics movies rank and marvel (no pun intended) on how badly they botched these characters.

The following contains spoilers for Harley Quinn Season 5, now streaming on Max.
Throughout the Zack Snyder Dceu era, there were many controversies. Fans didn't like Superman killing General Zod, for example. Others felt that Ben Affleck's Batman rushing to kill Kal-El wasn't organic, nor was it inspirational.
The most divisive scene, however, was not that particular kill, but a series of casualties. It's the finale of 2013's Man of Steel, where there was just so much chaos and collateral damage. Interestingly, the Harley Quinn TV show has found a way to address this arc by layering it with comedy.

Batman & Robin is often considered to be one of DC’s worst films, but years later, some fans have warmed up to it, seeing it as an attempt to try and recapture the campiness of the '60s Adam West era in a more modern setting. Many of the actors, including George Clooney, have since apologized for participating in the film, and it was obvious that many of them didn’t know how to handle Joel Schumacher's more lighthearted take on the material. When it comes to Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy, on the other hand, it’s a much different story. Watching it now, it's clear just how much fun she’s having in the role,...

Sid Meier's Civilization 7 is going to be packed with a ton of new changes and fresh gameplay mechanics that will give players an entirely different Civ experience than they've had in the past, and one change provides a new way to play shorter games. The new Ages system divides each campaign up into just three major stages: the Antiquity Age, Exploration Age, and Modern Age. Each Age has distinct Legacy Paths for four separate familiar categories: Military, Economic, Science, and Culture.
All of these updates aim to create a more balanced experience for a broader range of players and make the game more accessible and approachable for new audiences. One concern being addressed is how the micromanaging aspects of Civ might drag games out longer than needed, even when opting for a game on the accelerated Online or Quick settings. Civ 7 addresses this by including a shorter game mode,...

Warning: Contains Potential Spoilers for Poison Ivy #27!
Poison Ivy's pheromone manipulation powers have officially returned to canon after years of being absent following the loss of her abilities. With their return, Ivy is wasting no time reminding fans of her most unique superpower and how it helped earn her status as a sex symbol and one of DC's most overpowered villains.
G. Willow Wilson's Poison Ivy run is perhaps most notable in the Gotham City Siren's comic history for stripping her of her signature plant and pheromone manipulation powers. However, Ivy's abilities were restored at the end of Poison Ivy #24, following her death and rebirth.
While she quickly embraced her plant manipulation powers, it wasn't until issue #27—by Wilson, Steve Orlando, Marcio Takara, Pop Mhan, and Arif Prianto—that fans saw Ivy use her pheromone powers. For decades, these powers have allowed her to release chemicals that manipulate...

DC may be eager to rebrand Poison Ivy as their next rising anti-hero, but for many fans, this shift feels like a betrayal of everything that defines her. This Gotham City Siren isn’t a hero in disguise; she’s a villain through and through, and her long, complex history proves it.
With so many classic villains already solidly in anti-hero territory, it raises the question: Shouldn’t DC allow Poison Ivy to remain bad?
Poison Ivy debuted in Batman #181 (1966), and from the start, the Gotham City Siren was rooted firmly in villainy, quickly becoming one of Batman’s most iconic rogues. However, DC’s recent push to reframe her as an anti-hero—evident in G. Willow Wilson’s ongoing Poison Ivy series and the Poison Ivy/Swamp Thing: Feral Trees one-shot—has sparked mixed reactions.
While some fans appreciate this new direction, others are disappointed, arguing that Ivy...

If it’s a theory, it could be a possibility. That’s what fan theories are for and this iconic theory about Cristin Milioti in The Penguin makes so much more sense than others.
Cristin Milioti in The Penguin | Credits: DC Studios
The iconic show, which recently debuted on Max, has found fame beyond compare as Colin Farrell’s Penguin returns to the fold of the Reeves-verse. However, what is Cristin Milioti as Sofia Falcone doing there? This theory might just have all the answers!
Cristin Milioti Will Become Poison Ivy In The Penguin
Although the title doesn’t make sense right now, by the end of this article, it will. Milioti (who found fame as The Mother from How I Met Your Mother) portrayed the role of Sofia Falcone, the daughter of Carmine Falcone.

Batman & Robin Stars Arnold Schwarzenegger And Uma Thurman Reunite In New Photo: "Watch Out, Batman"
Batman & Robin was released in 1997, just 5 years after Tim Burton's critically acclaimed Batman Returns. The movie, starring George Clooney as the Dark Knight, could not have been more polar opposite to what Burton set out to do less than a decade earlier.
Joel Schumacher embraced the campiness and toyetic nature of the Caped Crusader's world. The result was a movie that's still widely considered one of the worst comic book adaptations ever (it was something of a commercial success but ended its box office run behind the similarly daft Batman Forever).
Now, Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy actors Arnold Schwarzenegger and Uma Thurman have reunited in a couple of viral social media posts. We can't believe this is the first time they've crossed paths since working on Batman & Robin, though they haven't shared the screen in a project since.

Warning: Contains spoilers for Poison Ivy #25!Poison Ivy is one of Batman's most accomplished rogues, but the science behind her powers is too often dismissed. One encounter with Batman offers a glimpse at her genius and how she manages to instill fear in Gotham's Caped Crusader.
Poison Ivy #25 contains the short story Beneath the Surface by Joanne Starer and Haining, wherein Batman attempts to confront Ivy in a greenhouse. Hes immediately overcome with a familiar scent of roses and wet earth, marking her presence, but thats hardly the only thing waiting for him.
As Bruce's hallucinations begin, including visions of his parents death, he's able to recognize all the steps Pam took to fight him. It's a calculated, clever list of hallucinogens and poison that...

I've always thought that the Batman villain Poison Ivy is more sympathetic than not, devoting her life to taking care of plants and the environment, even if she doesn't care much about the human cost. In a brand-new variant cover for her solo series, she's showing how seriously she takes her goals, cradling a whole human skull (with spine still attached) in her palm.
Having recently died and been resurrected, Poison Ivy is on a gentler path, accepting that there can be a balance between human life and the life of the planet. She had even acquired a gentler code name, the "Green Knight," that makes her almost a new member of the Bat Family. But she's still showing a deadly side in new cover art for Poison Ivy #27 by G. Willow Wilson and Marcio Takara.

It’s time to let Leon Bridges reintroduce himself. The soul artist is naming his upcoming fourth studio album simply Leon, and he’s previewing it with the serene-sounding “Peaceful Place.” He shot the video for the song around Mexico City, near where he recorded the record due out Oct. 4. He sings, “I’m in a peaceful place” on the song, with bongos and handclaps supporting him, and, of course, some soulful guitar. In a statement, Bridges said it’s the album he’s been waiting his whole life to record.

A spooky new variant cover for Poison Ivy #26 shows a darker, more sinister side to the character, hinting at a potential chilling transformation. Ivy's iconic plant powers are given a dark redesign on Sebastin Fiumara's Poison Ivy #26 variant covers, turning the beloved anti-hero into a scary cryptid version of herself. The haunting variant cover by Sebastin Fiumara sets a foreboding tone for Poison Ivy's next adventure, leaving fans of the character on the edge of their seats.
A new variant cover featuring Poison Ivy depicts the villain turned anti-hero as one of the most spine-chilling creatures to hit DC Comics, as an ancient, eldritch evil rises to destroy Gotham. Future revisits of this cheating plot are unlikely, as they focus on working on their flaws together.
The love between Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy may have just survived a serious cheating plot, but the question remains how long this will last. Harley and Ivy's relationship has become a fan-favorite romance since they announced their love in the 2010s. It became so beloved, in fact, that there was massive fan backlash when the two officially broke up. Now the two are back together, but the latest issue of Poison Ivy shows that they nearly fell into a major trope that could have ended the romance for good.

Screen Siren Pictures, the Canadian-based independent production company behind such recent titles as French Exit, Bones of Crows and Indian Horse, on Thursday announced the launch of Scream Siren, a new arm at the company focusing on original, genre-driven storytelling with a spotlight on female protagonists.
Christine Haebler, one of the producers on Scream Siren’s first few films out of the gate, said that the company will apply its “track record of producing elevated art house films to the thriller and horror genre,” prioritizing “unique and compelling stories that resonate with a wide audience, especially with strong female leads that challenge conventions and explore new horizons.”
The label will look to work with both up-and-coming and established writers and directors in the genre space. In addition to Haebler, producers on Scream Siren’s initial slate of films will include the company’s President Trish Dolman and COO, Steven Thibault.
First up on the slate is Ivy, an original teen horror about a malevolent ghost who wreaks havoc on a 17-year-old and everyone who comes into contact with her. Kaare Andrews (Sniper: Assassin’s End) is set to direct the project written and co-produced by Jason Bourque and Paul Birkett.
Next up is Running Girl, a tight action thriller about a young woman who witnesses a harrowing murder only to have to run for her life with a 9-year-old, outwitting the murderers in the high desert. Marie Clements (Bones of Crows) will direct from a script by Deon Meyer (Durban Poison).
Then, there’s Osiris, a supernatural psychological thriller that takes place aboard an IceBreaker on a retrieval mission, which is on a race against time to uncover the origins of a mysterious sound emanating from the deepest part of the southern Atlantic Ocean. Rachel Leiterman will direct from a screenplay by Coz Greenop (Dark Beacon) and Lucinda Royden (It All Comes with Cold Water). This project will be produced in partnership with Gareth Wiley from Phoenix Wiley Films in the UK .
In a statement to Deadline, Dolman stressed that Screen Siren’s genre push through the new label “underscores our dedication to delivering high-quality, captivating content that not only entertains but also sparks meaningful conversations.”
Added Thibault, “Launching our new genre label marks an exhilarating chapter for Screen Siren Pictures. We are thrilled about the projects currently in development and the amazing filmmakers we’ve attached. This initiative not only reinforces our commitment to diverse and original content but also amplifies our impact on the industry.”
Scream Siren’s first trio of films are being cast by Rene Haynes, CSA, whose past works includes Killers of the Flower Moon, Prey and The Revenant. The films are financed and will aim shoot in the fall of 2024 and early Q1 of 2025.
Dolman founded Screen Siren Pictures in 1997, joining forces with veteran producer Haebler and producer and COO Thibault in 2008 and 2023, respectively. Collectively, their productions have screened at Cannes, Berlin, Sundance, TIFF and many other international festivals.

Poison Ivy's revised origin story reveals her intense motivation to save Gotham, aligning her more with Batman than other rogues. After a failed partnership attempt with Batman, Ivy still strives to accomplish her goals, but is labeled as one of the "bad guys." Despite past conflicts, Poison Ivy reaches out to Batman for help in saving Gotham from a new threat, showing their similarities and potential to work together.
Warning: Contains spoilers for Poison Ivy #21!
After nearly sixty years of conflict, Poison Ivy remains one of Batman's most powerful foes. Insight into her first trip to Gotham shows that things could have been different, as Pam Isley and the Caped Crusader have a great deal in common. They share a desire to save the city that Bruce Wayne dedicates his life to protecting, making Poison Ivy different (and more complex) than the city's other rogues.

Warning: Potential Spoilers for Poison Ivy #21!Thanks to Poison Ivy’s plant-based powers and the various storylines she's appeared in, the Gotham Siren has enjoyed one of the most ever-evolving character designs in DC Comics. From depictions that cast her as a bombshell redhead with a penchant for green to those that lean towards a form that is more plant than human, her appearance has varied greatly over the years. However, the unveiling of Poison Ivy’s original form may just be her most captivating yet.

Cassandra Ariel beautifully reimagines Poison Ivy as a princess, showcasing her intricate details and professional makeup skills. The princess design offers Poison Ivy a fresh and non-threatening look that could be a compelling addition to her character in official comic adaptations. This unique cosplay concept creatively blends Ivy's love for plants with the elegance of a princess, presenting a fresh take on the iconic character.
In DC Comics, the eco-terrorist known as Poison Ivy is a deadly member of Batman’s extended rogues gallery who uses her total mastery over plant life to make the Bat-Family’s lives far more difficult than they need to be. Yet in an inspired cosplay design, Pamela Isley’s more villainous nature is left by the wayside in favor of an inventive and lighthearted makeover, putting Poison Ivy in the running for the best-dressed princess in all of comics.

Netflix’s The Program: Cons, Cults, and Kidnapping is occasionally as hard to watch as it is impossible to ignore. Directed by Katherine Kubler, a former “student” of the troubled-teen-repair institution, the limited documentary series uncovers the appalling conditions of the now-defunct and abandoned Ivy Ridge boarding academy located in the wilds of Oswegatchie, New York.
Kubler attended or was incarcerated in Ivy Ridge from March 2004 to June 2005. She entered at age 15, kidnapped abruptly against her will in the middle of the night on the grievous charge of sipping a Mike’s Hard Lemonade at a previous school. Facing an unbelieving father, Kubler feels the forcefully-abandoned experience she endured stole her teenage years, and continues to embezzle large deposits from her adult psyche. Her post-traumatic stress and persistent panic attacks are a constant reminder of damage that cannot be undone.
Except maybe through long-form journalism. Kubler self-effacingly calls herself an “amateur gumshoe,...
