Revenge has never been served colder than you see it dished out in Netflix's second trailer for "The Harder They Fall," the revisionist Black western with an all-star cast to die for. And as you can see in the trailer, plenty of folks do die at their hands. This new look at the film seems to encompass more of the entire story than the first trailer released back in June, which focused mostly on the opening breakout of Idris Elba's fearsome villain Rufus Buck.
Here's the official synopsis:

Netflix remains out in the cold when it comes to the Cannes lineup. The festival and the streamer, despite ongoing conversations, are still unable to bridge their differences and so, once again, the Croisette will be devoid of Netflix movies.
Cannes insists on a local theatrical release for movies playing in Competition but has previously offered the streamer non-Competition slots. ‘Out of Competition’ hasn’t appealed to the streamer.
Festival chief Thierry Fremaux reiterated the status quo today (via a translator): “The festival has a rule that films in Competition must have a local theatrical release. Netflix wishes to have its movies in Competition and on their platform. Since 2017, Netflix hasn’t agreed to play its films outside of Competition but we talk a lot. There were two potential films that may go to other festivals. We regret that we haven’t been able to negotiate their Out Of Competition presence.

Exclusive: Jonathan Majors, who is racking up awards noms for this year’s indie hit The Last Black Man in San Francisco, has been set to star opposite Glen Powell in Devotion, Black Label Media’s movie based on the true story of two elite U.S. Navy fighter pilots during the Korean War. Jd Dillard is directing, and the pic is scheduled to begin production next year.
Majors will play Jesse Brown alongside Powell’s Tom Hudner in the aerial war epic scripted by Jake Crane and Jonathan Stewart. The screenplay is based on Adam Makos’ bestselling book Devotion: An Epic Story of Heroism, Friendship, and Sacrifice.
Set in an era fraught with racial disparity, Brown became the first black man in U.S. Naval history to become a fighter pilot, while Hudner decided to forgo Harvard to join the Navy. Despite their differences, an unbreakable bond was forged, and their...

Things are happening fast for Jonathan Majors. In January at the Sundance Film Festival, the actor became an instant breakout, with a winning performance in Joe Talbot’s wistful “The Last Black Man in San Francisco.” The movie finds Majors playing quirky artist and playwright Montgomery “Mont” Allen, and the role recently scored the 30-year-old Yale School of Drama graduate Gotham and Spirit Awards nominations — but he’s unfazed by the sudden acclaim.
“To me, an award just means your peers are saying, ‘He contributed to the form,’ and I want to contribute to the form much as possible,” Majors said. “I’ve been lucky enough to be busy, but it’s still strange at times. My manager will tell me that so-and-so wants to interview me, and I say, ‘Me? Are you sure they have the right guy?’ So it’s probably just an adjustment I need to make.

I don't know about you but I love a good western. The genre was kind of lost on me throughout most of my life, but then after seeing The Coen Brothers' one-two punch of No Country for Old Men and True Grit I got the western fever and have seen a healthy amount of motion pictures set within the dusty trail of that genre since. Not to mention HBO's Westworld. And so I'm excited about today's news that lets us know none other than Beasts of No Nation and Hobbs & Shaw actor Idris Elba will be leading the charge on a new Netflix western revenge drama The Harder They Fall produced by Jay-Z.
The "all-black Western" will center on Captive State and White Boy Rick star Jonathan Majors as an outlaw named Nat Love, who, upon discovering that the man who killed his parents two decades previously is being released from prison,...

Elia Kazan never stopped making great pictures, but much of his output after 1952 was politically defensive in nature. This powerful indictment of American media madness is a genuine classic, but it also points up the need for ‘good folk’ to sometimes betray their associates. The target this time around is the most kill-worthy monster in the history of sardonic satire: Lonesome Rhodes, a faux-populist master manipulator of the pushover public. Kazan and Budd Schulberg’s premise has come to pass in real life, but their silver bullet of truth has lost its power: even when unmasked publicly, some media monsters thrive.

Noir City: Hollywood — The 21st Annual Los Angeles Festival of Film NoirBy Alex Divine DeleonThe Noir City Festival has now come of age and the 21st edition which opened at the venerable Hollywood landmark Egyptian Theatre on Friday, March 29, 2019, will this year display twenty uncut gems on ten consecutive nights running in strict chronological order from ‘Trapped’ (1949) to ‘Cry Tough’ (1959). In essence a cannily selected survey of the Hollywood decade of the fifties from an underbelly angle such as only the Film Noir Foundation has the guts and integrity to reveal. Many of these old pictures have been rescued from oblivion by the cutting edge preservation skills of the UCLA film department.
Think the 1950s were buttoned-down and conservative? Think again.
In the 2019 edition of Noir City: Hollywood you will experience the rush — through a lens, darkly — of a turbulent and transitional time in American history, culture, and cinema. Nothing would ever be the same.

Part of the fun in rounding up recent books about (or connected to) cinema is the sheer diversity of releases. This latest collection features a dive into this history of Hollywood legends, lots more Force Awakens, compelling reads from two fascinating critics, texts highlighting the art of Batman v. Superman and The Little Prince, and more. Plus, if you’ve been coveting Constable Zuvio mentions, you’re finally in luck.

Now that Bethesda has signalled the klaxon to confirm that Fallout 4 has gone gold, ready to be shipped to retailers in time for November 10, the comprehensive trophy/achievements list for the RPG sequel has emerged.
It does, as you would expect, include some mild spoilers pertaining to the game’s set-up, including general locations and specific tasks that involve killing certain enemies. How and ever, it doesn’t openly expose the narrative that awaits fans across the vast Wasteland of Massachusetts.
More News From The Web
Dancing around any plot-sensitive information and it’s clear Fallout 4 will welcome back some of the defining tropes of the series, such as recruiting companions, slaying monsters and people, collecting bobbleheads, hacking terminals and of course, crafting items.

The Harder They Fall: Cohen Takes Us Back To Racial Stereotypes of Yore
Screenwriter Etan Cohen makes his directorial debut with Get Hard, a crass, generally low-brow situational adult comedy that valiantly tries to disguise its extreme lack of taste and forethought with the personas of its popular comedic stars Kevin Hart and Will Ferrell. In hindsight, maybe there’s a reason that the regular helmer of these Ferrell crafted boy child comedies Adam McKay, who gets a story credit here, didn’t oversee the project, since it never overcomes the ridiculously crippling antiquation of its initial set-up.
Had this been made somewhere in the 1980s, where we saw a slew of titles grappling with topical issues of racial stereotypes like 48 Hours with Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy, and on the comedic front, several pairings of Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder, this would have seemed regressive even then. But...

Breathless is not playing at this year’s Classic French Film Festival, but St. Louis classic French film fans get to see it on the big screen anyway! It’s part of the Mildred Lane Kemper Museum’s series A Critical Eye: Avant-Garde Cinema of the 1960s and is screening this Tuesday night (March 24th) at the Tivoli (6350 Delmar Blvd. University City, Mo). The show starts at 7pm. Admission is Free!
Breathless was remade in 1983 with Richard Gere and Valerie Kaprisky (remember her? Me neither). The remake, directed by Jim McBride, is excellent but has been hard to see in recent years. It will be available on Blu-ray on April 7th, which means this is a perfect time to take in the original to compare and contrast.
The part that Jean Luc-Godard played in The French New Wave was tremendous. Breathless (1960), with its innovative jump-cuts, catapulted Godard into international fame.
