The Berlin International Film Festival has announced the full lineup for its 2025 Generation section, which highlights children and youth films.

The Generation 14plus 2025 competition will open with Christy, directed by Brendan Canty. The film portrays a teenage boy from Cork, Ireland, navigating the shadows of his family’s past while seeking a place in the world. In the Generation Kplus section, the opening film The Nature of Invisible Things explores a community’s support for two girls as they grapple with moments of farewell and new beginnings.

The competition lineup features Seaside Serendipity by Satoko Yokohama, an episodic film set on a nameless Japanese island, which blends magical realism with everyday life, questioning the intersection of art and life. Also highlighted is Wrong Husband by Zacharias Kunuk, which transports viewers to a mystical world in the Canadian Arctic, where human and spirit realms collide in a fairy tale about young love.

The Berlin Film Festival has confirmed that Bong Joon Ho‘s highly anticipated Mickey 17, the director’s first feature since his historic Oscar sweep with Parasite, will have its international premiere out of competition in Berlin. Variety first reported last week that “Mickey 17” would have its international premiere at Berlinale.

“The Narrow Road of the Deep North” will world premiere at the festival. Adapted from Richard Flanagan’s Booker Prize-winning novel, the highly anticipated series stars Elordi as a celebrated World War II hero who is haunted by his experiences in a Japanese prisoner of war camp and memories of an affair that took place just before the war.

Matthew Rhys and John Krasinski are about to go head-to-head (or maybe some other body part that got thrown in the river?) in a thrilling new television series for Amazon Prime Video. The two actors have been announced as the stars of the streamer's newest show, Silent River, which follows the two men as their small town reels with the discovery of a serial killer living among their ranks.

In a new announcement (which we read about via Variety), the series will see its creator Aaron Rabin reuniting with Krasinski and Andrew Bernstein, who is also on board as a director and executive producer. All three men worked together on Krasinski's other Amazon series, Jack Ryan (which also has a movie iteration in production at the moment).

Magpie credits Tom Bateman as its writer, but his wife Daisy Ridley helped him conceive the idea from the get-go, as we recently learned. Director Rian Johnson has revealed the first look at Daniel Craig's Beoic Blanc in the upcoming Knives Out movie, titled Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery. The growing franchise is writer/director Rian Johnson's take on classic murder mystery novels, such as the books of Agatha Christie. Knives Out was first released in 2019 and introduced audiences to Benoic Blanc and his iconic southern accent. Johnson and Craig then returned in 2022 for Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which was released on Netflix.

The BBC and BritBox International have secured A-list talent for their latest Agatha Christie adaptation.

Oscar-winner Anjelica Huston has been cast in Towards Zero, potentially the highest-profile actor to appear in a BBC Christie series since John Malkovich played Poirot in 2018’s The ABC Murders.

Huston will play the aunt of lead character Nevile Strange (Oliver Jackson-Cohen). The Agatha Christie-inspired franchise that began with 2017’s Murder on the Orient Express and continued with 2022’s Death on the Nile has a new entry, A Haunting in Venice (read our review Here), which has racked up over $100 million at the global box office since receiving a theatrical release last month. And now it’s time for it to come home. The digital release of A Haunting in Venice is set for Halloween, October 31st – and the movie will be streaming on Hulu on that same date.

The physical media release will follow next month, with A Haunting in Venice reaching Blu-ray and DVD on November 28th.

As it turns out, there’s a very good reason why Guðnadóttir might find pleasure in Christie’s work. “My grandmother, who was one of the first women doctors in Iceland and a brilliant virologist, always said that the only way to get a tiny break from your mind is to read a good detective novel or crime story,” Guðnadóttir told IndieWire.

Kenneth Branagh’s second Agatha Christie film Death on the Nile, did not have a smooth ride. Its release was delayed several times due to first Disney buying the studio that made the film, 20th Century Fox, and then the Covid pandemic, and its cast turned out to be a Pandora’s Box of, at best, bad PR and at worst, criminal allegations.

Back in 2020 then, when Branagh was filming his autobiographically inspired family drama, Belfast, a third Hercule Poirot film wasn’t necessarily a given. Though Agatha Christie’s estate and Branagh were keen to make further sequels to 2017 hit Murder on the Orient Express, the next Christie movie had yet to be greenlit.

That uncertainty inspired Branagh to tuck a Poirot Easter Egg into Belfast as “an offering to the gods,” as he told The Hollywood Reporter. “They can tell us, in the end, if we’ll be allowed to make it.
