“Chinese Satellite,” the interstellar centerpiece of Phoebe Bridgers’ Punisher, has received an acoustic rendition.
Recorded at Sound City in Los Angeles, the new version of the track is stripped of Ethan Gruska and Tony Berg’s production, leaving Bridgers solely on acoustic — resulting in a dazzling, even lonelier feel.
The new cut of “Chinese Satellite” is part of Secretly Canadian’s ongoing SC25 singles series, a celebration of the label’s 25th anniversary. All proceeds go directly to New Hope for Families, a nonprofit raising money to fight homelessness in Bloomington,...

This might just be the sweetest short film you'll see all year. Crush is an adorable 3-minute animated short made by a French animation collective called MegaComputeur (from their site: "We love telling stories and bringing characters to life... Especially dumb characters.") and it's a must watch. It was commissioned by the French Alps ski resort Val Thorens and it's a delightful short about two cable cars in love. A scrap dealer about to crush an old 80s cable car imagines what life was like for two mountain lovers on cables. The character designs are so cute and I love how pure their love is - sharing fondue and snacks together, relaxing in a hot tub, making snowmen. Yes, I can confirm that this definitely makes me want to visit the mountains. I always adore these kind of warm, charming animated shorts that are meant to make you smile and laugh.

Glorify, an app designed to help Christians strengthen their daily connection to God, today announced the closing of $40M in Series A funding led by a16z, with participation from SoftBank Latin America Fund, K5 Global and prominent individual investors including Kris Jenner, Corey Gamble, Michael Ovitz, Michael Bublé, Jason Derulo, the founders of Candy Crush and more.
The company’s new funding will be used to help Glorify scale its operations, expand its team internationally, create new and exclusive content, while further evolving the app’s features to meet and serve customer demand from Christians around the globe.
“When we first came up with the concept for Glorify, we knew we were onto something big, but as we met with investors, it soon became clear that we’ve managed to capture lightning in a bottle,” said Ed Beccle, co-Founder of Glorify. “So much of what is out there doesn’t resonate with people today.

This writer can’t really speak with authority on the Resident Evil game franchise—my only experience was putting down the Wii controller on the fourth installment almost immediately after being too scared. Yet if one had to guess, the iconography seems pretty well-encapsulated in a 1997 Japanese ad directed by none other than George A. Romero. That simplicity seems to have been ignored by Paul W.S. Anderson’s unwieldy, extremely enjoyable six-film series, so even as a non-gamer there was some understanding Resident Evil was not done as a movie franchise.
There seemed some promise with director Johannes Roberts, who has the rare combination of being a huge horror geek and intelligent filmmaker, with visually accomplished, entertaining B-movies like Strangers: Prey at Night and 47 Meters Down under his belt. Unfortunately, his reboot Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City feels like a lot of good individual ideas that don...

It's a cruel summer—except for the anniversary of Blue Crush's release. 19 years ago, Kate Bosworth, Michelle Rodriguez and Sanoe Lake teamed up to take on the famed Pipeline competition in the surf drama. The trio played best friends trying to make ends meet in Hawaii while Anne Marie (Bosworth) pursued her dream of becoming a pro surfer after a near-death accident in the water. Since its release in 2002, earning $55 million at the box office to become one of the summer's sleeper hits, Blue Crush has remained a cult classic, thanks to its depiction of female friendships and a young woman trying to make her mark in a male-dominated sport. And there was even buzz in 2017 that a Blue...

One of “American Idol’s” more memorable runner-ups, David Archuleta, revealed that he identifies as bisexual and asexual. He is also encouraging people from religious backgrounds like his own to respect those that are wrestling with their own identities.
Archuleta, who placed second behind David Cook in 2008 during the show’s seventh season, came out in an emotional Instagram post on Saturday. The “Crush” singer also detailed his struggles to reconcile his sexual identity with his Mormon upbringing.
“I like to keep to myself but also thought this was important to share because I know so many other people from religious upbringings feel the same way,” Archuleta began. “I’ve been open to myself and my close family for some years now that I am not sure about my own sexuality. I came out in 2014 as gay to my family. But then I had similar feelings for both genders so maybe a spectrum of bisexual.

New Delhi, May 25 (Ians) Maintaining social distance of two metres is not enough as coronavirus, that spreads via aerosol, can be carried up to 10 metres through the air, experts warned on Tuesday, adding that double masks, coupled with hand hygiene and proper ventilation could be the key to curb the spread.
Coronavirus was earlier deemed to be spread via droplets. But a new assessment published in the medical journal The Lancet last month revealed that there is consistent, and strong evidence to prove that the Sars-CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19, is predominantly transmitted through the air. On the other hand, evidence supporting large droplet transmission was almost non-existent.
Earlier this month, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that coronavirus is airborne.
The Indian government also, in a recent advisory, said that aerosols can travel up to 10 metres from the infected person, and that aerosols,...

In honor of Bridgerton being one of the buzziest shows on television and its recent season two announcement, we asked Luke the tough questions, including whether he is Team Duke or Team Prince. New York, NY (1/25/21) – Today Jy, the Yen Press kids’ imprint responsible for celebrated works such as Svetlana Chmakova’s Awkward, Brave, and Crush, announced Kyle’s Little Sister, a graphic novel by artist BonHyung Jeong. Light-hearted and adorablably illustrated, Kyle’s Little Sister addresses themes that include sibling rivalry, learning to be okay with oneself, and mending friendships.

My name is Grace, not “Kyle’s little sister!”
Having a good-looking, friendly, outgoing older brother sucks—especially when you’re the total opposite, someone who likes staying home and playing video games. Your parents like him better (even if they deny it!), and everyone calls you “Kyle’s little sister” while looking disappointed that you’re not more like him. I was really hoping I’d get to go to a different middle school, but no such luck. At least I have my friends…...

There is no confusion quite like the confusion that accompanies the break-up rebound — the heart trying to open itself up again to the world, against the white-knuckle grip of that older love. It’s a charged energy that budding NYC pop artist Softee navigates deftly on her new song, “Crush.”
Softee is the DIY project of Nina Grollman, a Julliard-trained actress who made her Broadway debut opposite Denzel Washington in a 2018 production of Eugene O’Neill’s The Iceman Cometh, and later starred as Scout Finch in the recent revival of To Kill a Mockingbird.

When the B horror movie Chain-face Clown was released in 1985, no one knew the film would one day become a classic. Well, at least by a select group of horror movie fans. The film’s biggest fan, 29 year-old Emily Lynessa always knew she was going to meet and fall in love with Jonathan Blaklee, mid 40s, the star of Chain-face Clown. In movies as in life, there is a familiar exasperation that often comes with witnessing people personally (rather than professionally) involved with addicts, as they try to make excuses for manipulative, mercurial behavior, chasing the user’s “new leaf” promises like a carrot on a stick. Fervently hoping for positive change, their desire to help can curdle into unintentional enabling. Plus, as engrossing as addiction may be from the inside, when viewed externally it sure can be monotonous.

In the land of fantasy novels, it’s not uncommon for series to go on for seven, twelve, or fifteen books. Some of my favorite series have clocked in at ten books or more. George R. R. Martin’s “Song of Ice and Fire” books are planned to hit seven in order to catch up to where the television adaptation Game of Thrones ended; the “Wheel of Time” books by Robert Jordan, completed by Brandon Sanderson, reached an epic fourteen; and books sixteen and seventeen of Jim Butcher’s “Dresden Files” are due out this year.
When such length is the norm, it become even more impressive when authors can pack a solid punch with a trilogy. This year, three solid trilogies have already concluded, giving readers a chance to see how even a short series can really stick the landing when it comes to that final installment. Kameron Hurley...

Starting at a time where audiences wouldn't have a new Marvel or DC show every night of the week, the Tom Welling-led series Smallville ultimately lasted for 218 episodes, all of which are now available for streaming. With so many episodes to choose from, it's difficult to narrow down to just ten being the "best;" episodes like "X-Ray," "Crush," "Heat," "Red," "Lineage," "Exile," "Memoria," "Covenant," "Run," "Commencement," "Arrival," and "Bride" were all at the very least considered and are definitely worth watching. Haddish had just been featured in the package two interviews prior to Hall, making the error even more glaring.

More fallout from “The View” was unearthed on Thursday, this time between Rosie O’Donnell and Whoopi Goldberg.
“Whoopi Goldberg was as mean as anyone has ever been on television to me, personally–while I was sitting there,” O’Donnell said, according to an excerpt from Ramin Setoodeh’s book “Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of The View” obtained by E! News. “Worse than Fox News. The worst experience I’ve ever had on live television was interacting with her.”
O’Donnell replaced Meredith Vieira as co-host on the talk show in 2006, only to leave a year later after she and fellow panelist Elisabeth Hasselbeck got into a heated political argument, according to E! Hunnah makes the kind of music you want to start and end your day with - smooth, jazzy tones that lend themselves to your morning cup of coffee and your evening glass of wine. A Toronto native and daughter of Ethiopian refugees, the 24-year-old's music is infused with influences of Stevie Wonder and Lauryn Hill, along with Hunnah's own personal heartbreak and the influence of Ethiopian jazz, making her a unique voice that we can't stop listening to. Though she only has three songs out, it is clear that she is bringing a rare level of openness to the table; her debut single, "Tell You," is a bouncy and colorful track that she made with chill trap DJ Pusher, but her latest singles - the buttery-smooth "Think About It" and slow, sultry "Crush" - really give you a feel for who Hunnah is and who she wants to be.

On the song, Lavigne wonders if a relationship is actually done since the break-up still doesn’t feel real to her. It’s a soulful, retro-pop sound with horns and a mid-tempo beat. Some media are better for some stories than others. I’d like to think that’s obvious, but the way mass culture obsesses about adapting everything into movies and TV shows makes me think it’s either a minority opinion or that a lot of people are just dim.
For example: you can do a strong, mostly silent type in a filmed format, and give him hidden emotional depths by turning his thoughts into a voiceover. But a novel is a much more natural and obvious way to tell that story. Comics, too, has less obtrusive ways to incorporate narration — the old thought bubbles, or the more modern narrative captions.
Which brings me to Jorge Ruiz, narration and central character of Svetlana Chamakova’s third graphic novel about the kids of Berrybrook Middle School, Crush . (It follows Awkward and Brave ). He’s the kind of kid who’s better at doing than talking,...

As a very successful June at the box office comes to a close, “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” is expected to easily hold onto the No. 1 spot with an estimated $75 million second weekend; meanwhile Lionsgate’s “Uncle Drew” and Columbia’s “Sicario: Day of the Soldado” will try to carve out a decent return on their mid-level budgets.
“Sicario: Day of the Soldado,” which opens on 2500 screens this weekend, is the sequel to Denis Villeneuve and Taylor Sheridan’s critically acclaimed “Sicario,” which made $84 million worldwide against a $30 million budget. Though that’s not exactly the sign of a franchise starter, “John Wick” was made into a franchise over at Lionsgate, and that film had an $88 million total against a $20 million budget.

It starts with a cold-blooded murder. The first story in the new anthology from Bedside Press, Gothic Tales of Haunted Love, makes it very clear that this book is not messing around. In “Crush” by Janet Hetherington, Ronn Sutton, Becka Kinzie and Zakk Samm, a young woman arrives at a seaside manor, excited to start her new job as a governess to too many children. She’s swept up into the arms of their gruff, burly dad, and the caption tells us that “her life will never be the same.”...

You might think that dealing with weird supernatural events in The Spiderwick Chronicles, The Moth Diaries and TV’s Once Upon A Time would teach Sarah Bolger not to go playing with the laws of nature. Stop me when this one sounds familiar:
A dour and quiet high school girl has a secret crush on a handsome and athletic boy, but since she can't have him she snaps and starts killing people all around the poor good-lookin' idiot. Sound familiar? Novel? Exciting? Then perhaps you need to see movies like Play Misty for Me, Fatal Attraction, The Crush, May, and -- dear lord -- Swimfan, because the blandly-titled "new" movie called Crush is little more than a tiresome collection of the most memorable things in those movies.
It's certainly not a crime to borrow from well-known thrillers but if you cannot bring at least one small kernel of originality (or at least novelty) to your own movie, it's pretty damn tough to imagine why a movie watcher would want to spend 93 minutes on it. To its mild credit, Crush does manage to throw a few curveballs...

Crush is definitely the Swim_fan of the current “CW” generation of horrors. It’s a story that’s been seen again and again, whether in big screen adaptations such as The Roommate or made for teevee Lifetime over the top presentations, it’s a pretty worn out plot line. Luckily for Malik Bader and cast, they manage to breathe a little bit of fresh air into the horror trope and present an entertaining teen thriller.
The movie centers around Scott (Lucas Till, X-Men: First Class), an up and coming high school soccer star who is definitely catching the eye of numerous ladies in town. After an accident and surgery, Scott is training himself back up to speed when people around him start getting harassed, injured, and a number of other things that jump the scale of danger in every scene.
