- (IPA) a voiced labiodental approximant.
- (superscript ⟨ᶹ⟩, IPA) [ʋ]-coloring, such as a rhotacized vowel ⟨Vᶹ⟩ in some dialects of English; or a weak, fleeting or epenthetic [ʋ].
- (superscript ⟨ᶹ⟩, VoQS) labio-dentalized (a type of [ʋ]-coloring), e.g. [sᶹ], [zᶹ] and [ɹᶹ] for some individuals in English.
- (IPA, obsolete) a voiced bilabial fricative; superseded by β
- The voiceless equivalent of ⟨ʋ⟩ was ⟨ꜰ⟩. Both were replaced in 1932.
