White-winged Nightjar

White-winged Nightjar, male near singing post © Dante Buzzetti

Dante Buzzetti shares a very rare recording of a White-winged Nightjar. The first from Brazil on XC. The image shows the male that is vocalising on the recording. Notice the white areas characteristic of the species. The male adopted this pose when Dante approached the place where he was vocalizing, on a terrestrial termite mound. The bird threw itself on the ground and opened his wings in this defensive posture, instead of flying away.

Cool recordings from Uganda coming in these days, courtesy of Jonathan Onongo. Thanks for sharing Jonathan!

Thanks for noticing. Special appreciation to the eBird team for providing me with training in sound recording and editing. eBird and Idea Wild also provided the audio recording equipment that has made the recordings possible. Look forward to continuing to contribute more sound recordings.
