Thanks. I've only seen the original Ben Hur movie on TV when I was a kid, so I'm guessing they're retelling the story for a new generation, kind of like how The Thing From Outerspace was remade by John Carpenter as The Thing, and it took on a whole new dimension.

The fact that this is in 3D is hopeful. If the 3D is strong, I'll see this.

To get the image box of the trailer to appear:
1. copy/paste the http address directly from the http:// entry box.
2. Paste into text by itself.
3. Press submit or preview and it should show up. Sometimes forums require so many posts for it to appear as an image box.

I don't think I can see this.

The 1959 Ben-Hur is just about my favorite movie of all time, and this ... wow. This just looks really poorly done. "Are we having fun yet??" is when I turned the trailer off.

Okay, thanks Creed.

It'll be interesting to see how this does in theaters depending on the overall reaction fans of the original have to this. This genre tends to do better than westerns, like when Disney remade The Lone Ranger.

Well the quality of the movie otherwise aside, the cinematography definitely looks to be taking advantage of the 3D format.

I absolutely love the original Charlton Heston version. I will be cautiously optimistic about this. When I first heard about this some time back I was a little worried. So far things don't look too bad but there is so much more to it.

One of my big questions will be,what is the running time on this gonna be? The original was 212 min. (3hrs ,32mins). Will they be trimming much or leave the bulk of it in the story? If the cut too much it would certainly affect the story.

If they can make the main characters likable, then a longer runtime will help if there is a lot of story to develop. Doesn't look like they're trying to replicate the classic original shot for shot, so that's good.

This reminds me of Pompeii 3D.

I am 110% on board for this. I absolutely loved Exodus Gods and Kings and I love the Charlton Heston Ben Hur so this is a no brainer, and in glorious 3D too.

Is this Remake Inception? A remake of a 1959 film which is a remake of the 1925 film.

Not the first time and certainly won't be the last. How many times have we had Robin Hood or Sherlock Holmes retold.

I love the story of Ben Hur so I am more than up for another telling of it, utilising contemporary CGI.

No - simply some films all based on the Lew Wallace novel of the same name. It happend 1907, 1925, 1959, 2003, 2010 and now. Nothing special. Necessary? Time will tell.

Hi All,

For those who haven't seen it, check out the Ramonne Navarro version next time it's aired on TCM. With us so into 3D, Dolby Digital/DTS and Lucas Film generated special effects, the 1926 silent version will show how masterpieces were done back then.

Certain scenes were filmed in two stip Technicolor and one - when Judas Ben-Hur rides triumphedly back in Rome - even has nudity. That's something the 1959 version wasn't allowed to do.

The story line remained the same though there was a major shift in the subplot toward the end that I won't reveal which I think made the silent version better.

But really urge catching this one next time it airs.

I've yet to see a 3-D trailer for this anywhere, and it's supposed to come out next month.

I haven't seen anything yet either. If it's a last minute conversion for some reason, Need for Speed had about 4 months and that turned out nicely for the 3D considering (medium 3D layers mostly).

The 3D will make the difference if I see it or not in theaters. If it's mild to medium, I'll likely pass.

Still hyped for this although reviews will probably be terrible and it will probably flop.

I dunno, man. I love 3D, and want to support the medium --- but the Heston "Ben-Hur" is pretty much my favorite movie of all time. I can't imagine this entire film will live up to just the chariot race scene of the "original" (yes, I realize it's not the original).

I'm afraid this will be a CGI mess, and ... I'm really getting to the point where if all Hollywood has to offer is just remakes and retreads of perfectly fine movies, then ... I'm not the audience they're seeking.

...

But then, I think I need to not be so "get off my lawn" old, and maybe I should give this a chance.

Agree, it's just another remake in 3D.
