Thanks. I've only seen the original Ben Hur movie on TV when I was a kid, so I'm guessing they're retelling the story for a new generation, kind of like how The Thing From Outerspace was remade by John Carpenter as The Thing, and it took on a whole new dimension.
The fact that this is in 3D is hopeful. If the 3D is strong, I'll see this. To get the image box of the trailer to appear: 1. copy/paste the http address directly from the http:// entry box. 2. Paste into text by itself. 3. Press submit or preview and it should show up. Sometimes forums require so many posts for it to appear as an image box. |

I absolutely love the original Charlton Heston version. I will be cautiously optimistic about this. When I first heard about this some time back I was a little worried. So far things don't look too bad but there is so much more to it.
One of my big questions will be,what is the running time on this gonna be? The original was 212 min. (3hrs ,32mins). Will they be trimming much or leave the bulk of it in the story? If the cut too much it would certainly affect the story. |

I love the story of Ben Hur so I am more than up for another telling of it, utilising contemporary CGI. |

For those who haven't seen it, check out the Ramonne Navarro version next time it's aired on TCM. With us so into 3D, Dolby Digital/DTS and Lucas Film generated special effects, the 1926 silent version will show how masterpieces were done back then. Certain scenes were filmed in two stip Technicolor and one - when Judas Ben-Hur rides triumphedly back in Rome - even has nudity. That's something the 1959 version wasn't allowed to do. The story line remained the same though there was a major shift in the subplot toward the end that I won't reveal which I think made the silent version better. But really urge catching this one next time it airs. |

benhur3Dpic.jpg The 3D will make the difference if I see it or not in theaters. If it's mild to medium, I'll likely pass. |

I'm afraid this will be a CGI mess, and ... I'm really getting to the point where if all Hollywood has to offer is just remakes and retreads of perfectly fine movies, then ... I'm not the audience they're seeking. ... But then, I think I need to not be so "get off my lawn" old, and maybe I should give this a chance. |
