Wondering why Trump has been making such a big deal about Ukraine's rare earth metals? Minerals that are potentially available, at best, 10 years down the road. And at worst, may not be commercially viable to mine at all, considering none have been mined, to date, and all knowledge of their existence is based on 50 year old geological surveys done by the USSR.
One reason, according to Antonia Juhasz, is that it's actually a FOSSIL FUEL SHAKEDOWN.

France is aiming to reach #carbon neutrality by 2050, having already seen its emissions drop by 20% since 2017. But even if #netzero is achieved by mid-century, scientists still predict temperatures in the country will climb by at least 4C by 2100 due to #fossilfuels.

Abundant schadenfreude, and this:
🍊 : "wouldn't mind" oil falling to $50/barrel.
That's 25% lower than current price.
Oil exec: below $60/barrel = less drilling, esp by "unconventional shale and the smaller players"
because they will make no profit on it.
Lower oil prices, less drilling.
Keep it in the ground!

FFS, CBC. The story is not that LNG is wildly popular at a #fossilfuels convention in Texas.
The story is that Danielle Smith is at that convention looking for investors to fund LNG in Alberta for Kevin O'Leary's proposed $70 billion AI data centre which he says she has promised him she can authorize.
Because AI needs the massive amounts of electricity which LNG could provide.
The story is we are still thinking up new justifications to promote LNG. #cdnpoli

Climate Change a mere “side effect” and a “trade-off” of fossil fuel awesomeness, says Trump admin.
This takes me back 25 years, when economic models(*) used to calculate the “optimal trade-off” was to cause more climate change than had occurred since the ice age.
Of course there are “trade-offs”, but they involve catastrophic risks!
(*) which won the Nobel Prize in economics

What remains of the mask finally falls away: "To applause from oil and gas executives, Chris Wright said natural gas was preferable to renewable energy and climate change was a 'side effect of building the modern world.'"
That raises some legal questions about whether Wright's statement amounts to accepting responsibility for civil claims that may arise in relation to injuries resulting from climate change-driven influences. Damage payouts could then be seen as merely an insurable 'cost of doing business' (if any insurer decides the risk is acceptable).
