Found these frogs 'hugging' during a walk. Not sure if they loved being photographed, or were too scared to move, but they posed well!

A few of my favorite things!

I did a bit of a digital clean-up on this one recently for new prints

Rare #frog rediscovered after 130 years phys.org/news/2025-03-rare-fro…

Lost for more than a century: the rediscovery of Alsodes vittatus (Anura, Alsodidae), one of the rarest and most elusive #amphibians from #Chile zookeys.pensoft.net/article/13…

"This is an important milestone for South American #herpetology... Most of the other Alsodes species are either threatened with #extinction or we don't know enough about them to assess their status"

Chorus Frog at the Pond

a chorus frog sitting in a pond with their back to the camera, croaking by inflating their very round throat skin. around them are dried grasses and green duck weed

#Introduction
I am here because I try to stop using the platforms of megalomanic oligarchs whose only two principles are money and power.

I like #frogs, #plants (in particular less common #houseplants), #photography, and people who respect each other regardless of background. I think I will post mostly in English, but it would be nice to meet other Swedes here, and perhaps even people from #umeå.

Let's see how things develop...

Out on my walk today I realized I could hear #frogs over the audiobook playing in my ears. Took a short detour from the trail to the sound's source, though I didn't manage to actually spot the vocalists.

I find it remarkable sometimes that creatures so loud - typically frogs, birds, and grasshoppers - can still remain practically invisible.

Maybe you can spot one in this video (I can't) but regardless, I invite you to enjoy their song.

It’s that time of year when our pond fills with frogs, the water looks like it’s boiling, and the sound of frogs in a mating frenzy fills the air!

For the second time in five years, frog in the boot

(Discovered by wondering, what’s that lump? when I put it on)

I store my boots upside down off a boot rack, up on our decking, by our back door.

How do the buggers even find them?

It's nice to greet old friends in my garden. The salad-bowl pond is still very much occupied by my cranky amphibian buddy.

Spawn update - half the pond is full of spawn, more than we've ever had before, at various stages of development and all successfully fertilised. There are around 8-10 clumps, which means maybe as many as 20 breeding frogs. If you can do one thing for wildlife, put a pond in as first priority, it can just be a plastic storage box sunk into the ground, anything, life will come. Anyway, froglets incoming hooray 😍

It's time for #MarshMadness!

This picture was taken not in a marsh, but in the Roman ruins at Al-Bass in Sour (Tyre), Lebanon. The frog is, however, a marsh frog (Rana ridibunda), so I think it counts.

At the risk of injecting a political note into a celebration of all things marshy, Al-Bass is adjacent to a Palestinian refugee camp that has been repeatedly bombed or shelled by Israeli forces, most recently in 2024.
