@_slotek_ Yes! Good spot - #GearSquad members know what pickguard plastic means. It’s a G&L Legacy. I’ve had it for 3 months and the plastic wore off enough for me to finally remove it everywhere. Used the t-shirt trick to safely remove the knobs but didn’t go as far as unscrewing the other hardware.

Does anyone have tips for getting barred notes to ring cleanly on acoustic #guitar, other than low action, light strings, tune down to C#?

Is there a technique? I'm working on thumb position, pausing to check that my hand is relaxed, and trying to fret accurately.

(song: Calling You / Bagdad Cafe. Slow 4-note arpeggios. Maybe I should do the low notes separately, on bass.)

Making music - trying to cover a song with some stretched-out fretting (3-7th fret)... and it's hard keeping the G string ringing.
I blew off recording last week, and it feels like I may blow it off again.
I don't know whether I should just find something easy to play.
I often try stuff that's hard for me, and do a version with many mistakes, rather than play something easier, with fewer mistakes.

Highlight of today: made a comment on Rick Beato’s Instagram video about Neal Schon’s “Stone In Love” outro solo, and Neal Schon liked it 😅 #gearsquad #music #melodicrock #guitar

Curious. Do you have a pick ups preference, for prs guitars, through the years and current offerings? Have they improved over time? #GearSquad #prs #guitar #PickUps

Seven bars of 7/4 with ascending triads (and a 7#9) on top. Here is the guitar tab if the GearSquad would like to try this at home. #GearSquad #guitar

Well this is even more fun than I thought it would be.

(Torso S-4. Dark, nasty, hard audio coming soon.)

Hey, #GearSquad, if you could pitch one video idea to do with educational type content with Sylvia Massy, what would it be? (Not in her studio, in a pretty nice, modern studio).

Tidying things up and more isolation

Really great things come just from adding the snake and wireless IEM/self-mixing

Broke down and ordered the M3 Ultra version of Apple's Studio desktop today. Going with a 28 core, 96 Gb memory & 4Tb SSD setup. Ordered two Studio monitors to go with it too. Can't wait until it arrives.

UPDATE
New power supply (from Bezos).
It works!
40 preset patches and 40 customizable ones. (I don't know how or how well the memory for those works.)
One sounds like a Dalek. 😀
Mic or instrument in. Some effects sound good with guitar.
Can do stereo out, couple of patches with "PNG" in the name may be ping-pong.
Knobs are gain and eq. Some patches assign time or speed or pitch to the treadle, some use it for mix or volume.

Please advise!
I'm trying to rescue an old DigiTech Vocal 300 Effect Processor.
(seems like Eventide with its LED alpha display and patch names).
It starts acting like it can't read the tone knobs when I take it off bypass.
I've opened it up and nothing seems wrong.
Could it be the power? The supply I have is 500ma; the stock one is 1.3a, 9VAC(?!). I can buy a replacement, but I don't want to throw money away.

Hi Awesome #Mastodon people, thanks for looking!
I just picked this 4 string Fender Squire Affinity bass up for less than the cost of a single meal at your favorite fast food place.
I'll fix the dings, scratches & paint it and change & set up the electronics (all of which I already have on hand) & then the neck etc, then a $15 set of new strings, and sell it for $150 or more. I just love #guitars

Help please
I'm new to #Mastodon and I find I'm being followed by some folks who don't post in english but I'd very much like to read their posts.
I've already checked the Mastodon "unofficial" help section and it describes using the 3 dots in the post and click on "translate" but my feed is not showing this.
Any ideas would be appreciated
Thank you

A question for #GearSquad: I have a late 70’s #Fender Twin Reverb combo amp I’m considering selling. Its power amp tubes have had it. Two have gone already, and I don’t think the other two will last long (though it’s demo-able).

If you were buying this amp, would you prefer I replaced the tubes first, or would you rather just do it yourself so you can put the ones you prefer in?

Thank you for all the comments on my first post yesterday. I am blown away by all the support!
This is a ESP LTD 4 string bass guitar that I originally bought in the 90's it was a black color originally
paint job:
Black base coat with a Createx custom teal blue & purple mix airbrushed over a metallic silver then 8 coats clear coat.
I set it up with a Bad Ass black bridge, Guitar Fetish J pickup and the original P pickup. Electronics were all upgraded as a bone black nut

@RyanHyde
Hi Ryan 👋 thank you
Is that spelling correct for that tag?
#gearsuad or #gearsquad
Thanks again I'm a total gear nerd 🤓

#gearsquad! I must have messed up earlier, lol. And I'm sure you've figured out by now, but in case you haven't, you can follow hashtags here. So any time anyone uses that hashtag, it'll show up in your timeline if you follow it.

And welcome aboard! That was an absolute sick tele you posted earlier. I'm not usually a huge tele fan (insofar as design is concerned), but I'd make an exception for that.

Here's my homemade ”tele”

Happy Weekend Eve, Mastodon.
For those about to rock, what are your plans? I’m gonna practice performing with loopers, maybe record the results to hear what works and what needs improvement. #MusicProduction #guitar #gearsquad

@noodlemaz @elaterite Whenever you're struggling with Alt Text, you can also ask @altbot to write a draft for you.

Also check out the hashtag #GearSquad for more modified guitar goodness

In the absence of an inbuilt promotion algorithm, discovery is pretty much organic.
Follow people who seem interesting, unfollow the ones that turned out to be less interesting, and follow the interesting ones that come into your timeline through them.

Also, it can be worth following hashtags.
#gearsquad seems appropriate, off the top of my head.

Further suggestions:

  • Add links to your Youtube channels to your profile, along with links to where people can find your original music.
  • You can pin posts to your profile, so that anybody looking at your profile sees those first. An intro post like this one is a good candidate for doing that.

Lastly: welcome! 😀

Well, hello musician.social here is my #introduction I’ve migrated here today from guitar.rodeo where I joined during the Great Twitter Migration of 2022. I’m a hobbyist musician who plays and records guitar, loves the 1980s, old stories from concerts long ago, and proudly GenX. Check out the cool people on the #gearsquad hashtag - anything music and gear, we like to discuss. Hang in there and let’s keep each other sane.

A colleague brought this to work the other day. It's a Höfner prototype from 1951 and I thought you would like to see it too.

When I’m not writing, playing or recording music, I like to pretend I’m a luthier. This was a kit build (not really a luthier) of a Thomann Jazzmaster guitar I finished 1-2 years ago. Plays and sounds better than I ever expected. Also very happy with the paint job, which was done just with aerosol cans.

In the basement working on my new song. Messing about with song structure. Tweaking lyrics as I go with building it to fit the structure. The bones are good, it’s putting it all together now. Likely a very short song at 140bpm with three verses and three simple one line choruses, unless I figure out some weird solo. However, I’m definitely not a shredder, so may have to get creative. Having fun. This short clip is just the Telecaster with Keeley Angry Orange distortion pedal. Three tracks; simple drums, Tele left and Tele right. The synth saw wave I’m in the process of integrating. #music #recording #metal #guitar #gearsquad

Anyone getting any of the three new JHS 3 Series pedals (Oil can delay, tape delay, and rotary chorus?) The rotary chorus seems interesting but the other two I feel like you can get those delays and more in other pedals, some of which are actually cheaper than JHS.

For the 4 people with Faderport Classic using Bitwig on Linux

I have a Faderport Classic. It's the PERFECT transport device -- small, with only what you need to survive, and fits in my keyboard drawer beside my keyboard and mouse. But alas, it's pretty old-fashioned, and isn't supported in most places. Bitwig has never liked it, even on Windows.

But as of today, it's working with Bitwig on Linux! Here's how to set it up.

Preparing to play my music live: guitar sounds.

Originally I exported my guitar patches for each song from Helix Native to my floor unit, tweaking them as I went. This quickly got tedious and I've realized that in a live setting 90% of the nuances are lost and it's going to be WAY easier if I just dial in good baseline sounds and use them most of the time.

‘Morning, Mastodon. Gotta migrate instances soon. #gearsquad #guitar

Struggled with this acoustic song. Both technically and emotionally. I couldn’t get the sound I was trying for, so I ended up tracking two guitars; the Godin acoustic and the Takamine acoustic. The Godin was mic’d with the SM57 and CAD pencil mic. The Takamine has an under saddle pickup, so I ran it straight into the Focusrite 4i4 interface plus mic’d it with the CAD. Both guitars had two tracks, so hard panned both for some width. Vocal mic was my old Apex 550 FET large diaphragm condenser. DAW was Tracktion Waveform. I capo’d to the 3rd fret and used a B-flat Hohner harp for this song. Basically it’s a tribute tune to my first radio, a little portable transistor radio, and to Red Robinson, the legendary Vancouver deejay I listened to as a kid. Upload tomorrow. #music #recording #songwriting #gearsquad #guitar #radio

Has anyone done a DOD #DigiTech PDS #pedal foot switch upgrade?

My dog marked my good old PDS 20/20 echo/chorus/flanger and I cleaned the switches out with deoxit stuff, but this time the switches are not coming back.

I have replacement switches from 'Bay, but I'm considering putting in proper footswitches. pins 1&2 and pins 3&4 are connected all the time, and all the pins are connected when I push the button.

Was listening to 60 Cycle Hum the other day and Ryan and Steve were talking about how they never cared for Mexican made Fender electrics, and I was aghast because I had a Mexican Strat many years ago when I first started playing and I thought it sounded and played fantastic. I think the criticism centered on the ceramic pickups? Thoughts, #gearsquad?
