I just discovered that the set of Windows 386 disk images, I had found on WinWorldPC a few days ago, were damaged and couldn't install the CGA graphics driver. Luckily, I was able to fix it to reveal this beautiful b/w mode of Windows 2.1. So Classy!

I just figured it out...that feeling I couldn't put my finger on.

Playing with my #retro computers, talking with my #retrocomputing community, while reading and watching my country get burned to the ground by nazis...it feels like I'm playing in the orchestra as the Titanic is sinking. Trying to put on a smile while knowing all to well, people around me (and soon me) are dying...and there's not a fucking thing I can do about it.

Don't you love the sound of bits loading from the Datasette, as it leaks through the monitor speakers? 🪉

Turn the volume up, and you'll instantly know when the game is finished loading, even while you're reading the latest issue of your favorite computer magazine! 😂

I used this stream from @BigBadBiologist to follow along rebuilding the floppy drive. I used “gun oil" I found on Amazon because it was the fastest way to get some kind of lubricant with a needle applicator. Seems to work well. The disk shoots out of the drive easily now lol

Accidentally left the ImageWriter on overnight and suddenly it wasn't showing up on the network anymore. Left it off and unplugged for a few hours, and everything is fine again.

I seem to remember that something similar happened after I'd been using the ThunderScan for a little while too.

Anybody else ever have things like that happen with theirs too? 🖨️

Probably look into SDL.

But if you're doing #retrocomputing anyway, you could just use your favourite retrodevice's emulator, and program its graphics like in the olden days. Perhaps with some Perl code added in to help generate you the assembler code, if you'll go that low-level.

I'm not entirely surprised—I’ve noticed that old digital watches tend to run faster over time. I have a few vintage models from the '70s and '80s that have noticeably picked up speed with age. I always assumed this was due to the natural aging of quartz crystal oscillators, but perhaps there’s more to it than that. Could there be another factor at play?

Ah, nevermind. Just saw an earlier toot from you. You're dealing with Intel ASM, sorry! You mentioned "Turbo Assembler" and I thought you meant "Turbo Macro Assembler" used for 65xx series chips (think Commodore 64, Apple II, etc.) Especially with the #retrocomputing hashtag. 😂

Yeah, ok, I guess 286/386s are also retro now. 😞 Sorry, I'm not familiar enough with that ASM to help.

How do you say jump near in Turbo Assembler?

- mode 1: cursor movement + tracks building

For future there will be mode 2 for infrastructure placement/management.
