Today I managed to get a much more usable browsing experience on my Raspberry Pi 4 running #SlackwareARM. Switched from bloated Firefox over to nice sleek Falkon and configured my adblock lists to block out basically everything. Where on Firefox it plays sites like YT at less than 5 FPS, and Invidious at maybe 6, Falkon plays both at full speed with only the odd frame drop now and then. So much better.

S03E45 - Slackathon: Slackware AArch64 meets Apple Silicon (UTM)
A few hours of hacking this evening and the Installer has booted, OS installed and booted with Linux 6.13. Still a few tweaks but that was fun π
< GrandTheft> What would be an example of an iptables rule that would allow anything and everything to come into the computer?
< tewmten> ehm.. iptables -f perhaps?
< GrandTheft> hmm let me try that

The Initial Ram Disk (OS InitRD) and the Slackware Installer include a set of kernel module loader scripts that conditionally load the essential modules required to initialise the base hardware during boot. ARM devices share common IP Cores, so we experiment with loading modules unconditionally to more expediently onboard new Hardware Models.
In this episode, we add functionality to the Kernel module loader to accomplish this.

Question to #pkgsrc people in the context of #slackware #linux usage. I have bootstrapped pkgsrc with Λbootstrap --prefer-pkgsrc yes --prefer-native openssl`. Everything compiles and works well so far.
Trying to build thunar, I get unsolvable error with a dependency. So I added "samba gvfs" to the prefer-native variable in my mk.conf.
But the build process still tries to compile samba4 and gvfs packages. What am I doing wrong?

I wish I could've experienced 90s European rave culture. I'd have been the guy covered in glow-in-the-dark paint and wearing shitty white guy dreadlocks down to my knees, handing out burned #Slackware CD-ROMs with a complimentary sheet of acid in the jewel case for free after the show.

Hey @jloc0 , it's @martindehf writing from my english-speaking account π
I want to update my current system but the documentation is a bit outdated and it doesn't take into account that:
- I have installed GRUB
- Multilib
- Used sbopkg to install some packages
- User slackpkg+ to install some packages from alienbob's repo.
Any tips or links would be greatly appreciated π

slackpkg+-1.8.1-noarch-1alien.txz has been added to /extra. Previously avoided due to potential breakage from third-party repos (e.g., incompatible shared libraries), itβs now included as alienBOB has fixed known bugs. Use with caution: third-party packages can impact your system. Thanks to phenixia2003, zerouno, and alienBOB for their contributions and maintenance!
(Resume from mirrors.kernel.org/slackware/sβ¦)
Well the plot thickens...
Leaving the #Slackware qemu VM running for a couple of days and the situation is now inverted:
Slackware VM: 0.2% CPU
#NetBSD VM: still at 1.1% CPU
Host CPU load: 0.15, 0.11, 0.08 (which is perfectly acceptable)
I think @Uilebheist was right when he mentioned the CPU would level out due to the differences between the Linux and the NetBSD kernels.
