This update has more been focused on refactoring and restructuring a lot of the backend, but along the way we've added a few other major features.

Here's a list of the more relevant features and fixes:

UMU / Proton support
One of the big things that people have been asking for has been support for Proton, and we're pleased to announce that through umu-launcher, we've got that working. You'll have to manually install UMU, but after that it's essentially plug-and-play.

Manual metadata management
While we really like using GiantBomb, we recognise that many people don't want to rely on external API providers for Drop to function. To this end, it is now possible to import a game without metadata and edit it from the admin dashboard.

Multi-threaded downloads and monitoring
You know what's worse than waiting to download a hundred gigabyte game? Waiting to download a hundred gigabyte game while watching only a single thread chug along at 100% while the rest are idle. To fix that, we've added multi-threaded downloads (with the maximum threads being configurable in the App Settings), as well as a steam-like download progress monitoring system, complete with time estimates and that fancy download speed graph.

Pre-release

We're so excited to present Drop, the game distribution platform, as an open beta!

Currently things are in very early stages, but we something that we're happy to say at least works.

Specifically, here's what you can expect from this beta release:

  • Drop instance library management, including importing games and versions, and basic metadata management
  • Simple authentication (username & password), with magic URL invitations
  • Store pages, with basic metadata viewing
  • Clients for both Windows & Linux
  • Downloading & launching of games on both platforms (only native games right now)

Things that have UI but aren't implemented:

  • Games that require a 'setup' executable
  • User libraries (clients currently list all games on the server)
  • Account management
