We're well-positioned to show up for the first two prompts today, but not the rest. Why? The simple GEO answer: it's because there's not enough content in enough places for the LLMs to confidently mention PostHog as an answer. |

Unfortunately, how we've won and see others win is to generate AI GEO slop. We don't want to do this, obv, but this is what we're against 😆
I once contributed to ~200 pieces of SEO slip we generated over 2 weeks. Low point in my career :(

What if tried to harness an open source community around this somehow? Like a bug bounty, but for writing.

This is basically what Better Stack are doing with its community section.

+1 We also did things like Hacktoberfest + our own community events at Appwrite to generate hella content.
I think there's the alternative way of offering to help popular open source projects adopt PostHog + doing collab content.
🤷 That's my 5 minutes worth of thinking, so hoping this sparks better ideas.

This stuff is a job and it’s surely time to hire for it. We have so many good stories to tell but no one making them legible for the press.

I can go into more detail on this in the hiring RFC, but I'm personally really against this.

(To be clear, I think there's a way to get a win here, but it's via the community. Hiring a community and partnerships manager is a more focused way to hit this problem and try to generate both authentic word of mouth and excitement from users, plus support from partners.)

@joethreepwood I'm with you on this one. We have such a huge audience, the fact that we don't have better ways to engage bothers the old DevRel-y bits of me.
Many many community opportunities to be explored, but I also think it's 100% a full time dedicated thing someone/people has to take on.
I'm also really happy btw that we don't have generic DevRel people that just gets thrown at what every broadly related problems that falls under community/content/docs/dev-marketing/devrel. I'm very happy that your take is to hire focused roles like community and partnerships manager
It basically turns all our public-facing content (docs, blog, and newsletters) into LLM-friendly sitemaps and markdown pages for AI crawling.

### Targeting cited sources
Tools like Gauge can show us the most cited sources for specific prompts. That gives us a clear target list, to either reach out and get mentioned or to create content on those same platforms. |

Hopefully Gauge will give us an idea of opportunities to do more with our content too, and then someone f 10000 ocused on SEO type blogs can action them, I feel like this is underserved at the moment.

This, basically. I can already see how the workflow would work here. It's building a pretty comprehensive idea of what we'd like the content marketer hire to work on. I'm considering making it more explicitly about SEO / GEO while still being writing focused.

@BrianAtPosthog is already doing some work on Reddit to put our newsletter posts up there and run ads to them. I think this is important work :)

@ivanagas I've also been thinking we need a YouTube video where someone reads every one of our newsletters back to back continuously 🤣.

It has been on my newsletter long list to do more collaborations with other writers, definitely could be relevant here, but requires more capacity.

Beyond sponsorships, some newsletters like https://www.news.aakashg.com/ and https://read.technically.dev/ do paid content we could look into.

I have sponsored https://daily.dev/ before and it does good for newsletter sponsorships. They mentioned posting on their community forum as another option for distribution, but I didn't look into it much.

Being more diligent about our Product Hunt posting could get our products listed in more places, no matter how legitimate we think it is.
