Description
This PR updates the README and includes these cleanup related PRs (see their notes):
Warning
Since this involves a lot of changes to the package manager and dependency lock files, it should be reviewed and tested fairly carefully before merging.
I might even recommend doing a fresh clone locally to test a fresh install from this
cleanupbranch just to make sure everything works as expected.
