[macOS] Update icon for macOS Big Sur? #21128
Comments
All you have to do is follow these instructions. I changed my Atom's icon by simply doing what they said - dragging/dropping the .icns file onto the Atom icon that is displayed within the "Atom Info" window that shows when you press "Command + i" when the Atom app is selected in Finder. Worked like a charm. May have to remove Atom from your dock and then re-add it after changing the icon for the new icon to appear in the dock but it instantly changed it for me. |
Yes please! :) |
@ghost @jeff-hykin i dropped the |
@adamsoutar here is the icon for beta. |
@ghost thanks for icon, looks great on my dock. Just spent the last 20 mins appropriating WhatsApp, Photoshop and Notion too. The dock has never looked so good. |

Summary
Suggestion to update the icon for the macOS version of the app?
Motivation
to match the new macOS Big Sur icon style
Describe alternatives you've considered
Manually changing the icon, it would be great if Atom could come with it though
Additional context
Proposed new icon: https://github.com/elrumo/macOS-Big-Sur-icons-replacements/raw/master/icons/Atom.icns
EDIT: I just found out that the icon linked above has a different license, so it probably wouldn't work to directly use that icon. However, if Atom would consider making their own, using the linked icon as an idea, that would probably work better...
EDIT 2: I just thought I'd clarify that in this issue, I'm mainly referring to the macOS version of the app as I would probably not expect cross-platform apps to use the Big Sur style on Windows and Linux for instance. Now, if there is no way to change the icon for just the macOS app without affecting the other platforms, that is understandable and I can close the issue.
