I was a little worried in one of the early scenes when I saw “AUTISM” written on a whiteboard. Like ugh are they really just warning us that a bunch of cringy and heavy-handed autistic-coding will follow? While Michael’s autism did prove to be convenient to the plot at times, I think they did a good job of sticking to representation rather than tokenization. I think it’s great that they also cast someone who is autistic himself. He was an autistic character—not “AUTISM.”
Good runtime, a hot villain, the always likable Daisy Ridley, and neurodiversity. I can get behind these things. It’s a popcorn flick that goes down easy. Who really cares if it’s not that memorable?
