It’s alright. Good performances and a great ending, but most of it is just recycled from other similar movies.
Rote sci-fi “thriller” ✌️🏻😬✌🏻, that really didn’t do anything new or interesting until maybe the last 10 seconds. And even though I kind of loved the end, that parting shot, I can’t really recommend it. The script is bland and the performances don’t really do much to elevate it. The titular slingshot sequence it is absent of all tension. Kind of made me appreciate how good similar scenes from Apollo 13, The Martian, Interstellar, Gravity, etc etc. are. Not the case here. Even at it’s most tense, this was pretty boring. Skip.

Slingshot is a frustrating and frustrated science fiction film that has one tiny bit of scientific knowledge and hand-waves away the rest. But I was ok with that since it's a low budget film that opts to go psychological over scientific. At least for awhile... and then it becomes a hand waving whatever goes mess.
The flick is about a trio of astronauts bound for Saturn's moon Titan. The title refers to a gravity assist slingshot maneuver around Jupiter to give them the speed to reach Titan. But the crew, who spend much of their time in hibernation, are starting to get worried about the mission and the survivability of their ship.

I would’ve preferred if the flashback scenes didn’t exist, but then there wouldn’t be much film left. It ended up being a decent single location psychological sci-fi thriller, had to wait for all the mind games to cease, and I’m glad it finished the way I hoped. Casey Affleck wasn’t half bad, but Laurence Fishburne made it worth watching.
Engaging; lo-fi; modest; smart; tense; twisty; unpredictable; well-acted.

A situation where the characters can’t trust their own thoughts & judgements is presented well within this film’s story. It seems metaphorical for real life scenarios when someone might experience the same kind of paralyzing doubt or confusion. I commend the film’s creators for taking on the topic, which is not easy imo.
