@trouble I was asked what kind of battery. It's this one!

ebay.com/itm/186641137947

It's kind of a rare model but it is out there!

You'll need/want to take off the battery's included regulator circuit board; the MonkeyLight canister has its own. But that's easy, it's easy de-soldering.

Hey hey, you thought there be no #nakeddiefriday today? Here we go!

Today's entry is an Infineon/Siemens SAB-C167CR-LM, a microcontroller based on the C166 core. The die is in pleasant-looking pastel colours. 😀 The die has pin 1 in top left corner. I'll do a short thread.

Many thanks to @debauer for supplying the samples!

Aren't there extension cables for these solar panel connectors? I only find "MC4" cables, which seem to be only the connector on the receiving end but not the panell side. I need an extension for the panel side though. as 2 of the 4 panels are further away.

Do those extension cables even exist, or isn't this meant to be due to some frequency issues? Should I instead get another one of those cables with 4 connectors put them in a row if possible? (Seems to be possible?)

I'm not entirely surprised—I’ve noticed that old digital watches tend to run faster over time. I have a few vintage models from the '70s and '80s that have noticeably picked up speed with age. I always assumed this was due to the natural aging of quartz crystal oscillators, but perhaps there’s more to it than that. Could there be another factor at play?

Oh right, I didn't show you how one of our #UniFi #Ubiquiti AP's "PoE" (not real one, hence the quotes) injector literally burnt… I had to hack in a barrel jack to use a regular 24V brick.

My old smart home hack for my blind remote on the left (servos!) versus my new version (direct tapping the pcb). The new one is smaller and responds much faster but I miss watching the “fingers” stab the buttons when we adjusted the blinds! On the plus side, the remote now runs directly off the 3.3v line on the @seeedstudio Xiao C3 instead of its own battery! Just need to design and print a lid now!

Anyone need some split core current transformers?

Up until about five years ago, I worked for an energy metering company. They did a warehouse cleanup and got rid of tons of material, including hundreds of CTs for AC current measurement. I snagged all of those (and used some for my own home metering) but I still have probably 200 floating around.

I've got split cores rated for 50A up to 6000A or so, and physical sizes from about 1/2" ID to 8" ID (the larger ones are flexible rope style). Mostly rated for 0-333mV AC output but there may be some oddballs in there (like 0-500mV, maybe a couple 4-20mA).

I need to clear up some space, so I was thinking $20 plus shipping per CT, maybe with a bulk discount if you get five or more? Some of these retail for $100+ so if I have something you need it could be a good deal! Most of these are lightly used in a testing environment.

I've updated the ottopot website and build instructions with the PCB version and the new case.
I'm considering this the v1 release 🙌

The ottopot is a MIDI controller with 8 endless potentiometers sending 14bit CCs.

Special thanks to @Nervengift for the PCB contribution.

Finally watched some tutorials and got myself off the ground with Nomad Sculpt! Which is funny, since my first project is a flightless kiwi. :3

Changed from Uno to Nano, different breadboard, different pair of earbuds, external power supply, tidied up the mess of wires, still nothing, still the same symptom.

I am now convinced that the Si4703 is fried :ablobcatreekeyboard:. I should pay better attention next time :blobcatglare:

#Electronics #Arduino #Fail

I was trying out a Si4703 radio module with Arduino Uno. Somehow I skipped over part of the tutorial that said that you are not supposed to just plug the Si4073 to 5V microcontroller. I only figured this out because my circuit didn't work.

So I redid the breadboard, this time with bidirectional level shifters. Still didn't work. Maybe the Si4703 is fried now. Good thing it was cheap :blobcatgooglyshrug:

It is 2 in the morning now, I'll just retry this later. Time to sleep :blobcatsleep:

(Tagging electronics folks, feel free to respond or not as willing/able.)

I'm doing initial research to design a custom battery mgmt/charge/balance circuit for a prototype. 4S/5S LiPo (nonprotected), 90Wh, 12A discharge. It needs to run the device while charging, like a laptop.

Any advice or resources on circuits/architecture/ICs, key safety req's? I'm a professional circuit designer but not experienced w/Li batteries.

Thanks!

So today is not going entirely to plan.
The set of additional #solarpanels I connected up refuse to give us juice. I tried to trace the fault and got jack shit info because my cheap ass 19 year old #multimeter is (confirmed by many tests now) not working any more. Its fuse is fine too, as is its #battery. It just displays zeros.
So add to the list of unexpected expenses and delays one new multimeter...

Intro 4/10
After my Minecraft Torch paper circuit project, I wanted to invent a circuit that is playful, yet easy to make. The result was this RGB Cube that is controlled by a touch-sensitive paper surface. If you use velostat, a pressure-sensitive variable resistor, you can easily mix any color by varying the amount of pressure. More: voltpaperscissors.com/rgb-touc…

Oops. I thought I'd clean the heads of the disk drives on the Tandy TRS-80 before trying them with the machine. The head on the top side fell off.

It seems it was just glued on, so I applied some fresh glue and stuck it on again. The good news: this was not the boot drive. The bad news: it doesn't seem to be working. Maybe I messed up the head alignment? Guess I need to hook up the oscilloscope and check the signal coming from the head.

At least the boot drive is working, and for the first time in my life I booted up a TRS-80 from disk.

Interesting mods as well, to select between 40 and 80 track operation.

Oh, and it turned out the heads weren't that dirty to begin with, probably didn't need a clean anyway.

A black plastic rectangular part bent out of the casing of a floppy drive, the read/write head dangling from a flex pcb that is no longer attached to the plastic that is supposed to hold it.

silly one day design, I2S DAC for a Rock 5B for fancy audio output.

building an audio player for my dad and he wants something "audiophile" so i put an LDO with <1µV rms noise on it lol

the TAD5212 is still missing a footprint but otherwise it's mostly done. but instead of layouting this i'll do something productive instead 😁
