I'm not nearly as intense about it as many people on this platform, but I do try to be paying attention and willing to switch when there are actually roughly equivalent alternatives for tech categories with better social consequences.

I mostly use Edge at work because we're all in the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, I like the Chromium dev tools, and vertical tabs as a default feature is very nice in my work.

I mostly use Firefox (desktop and mobile) for personal browsing, for the better privacy and to support somebody other than a giant corporation.

Maybe there's a path for #Ecosia to replace either or both of those?

Anybody here tried the #Ecosia browser and have any thoughts to share?

Its promise of Chromium but more efficient without all the tracking, and profit that goes to something good instead of investor accounts, is great but I am curious how much it lives up to it.

After some reading and thoughts, I have refreshed my ~15 years old browser + search engine setup. And the winners are @Vivaldi and Ecosia (and a note on @Qwant).

As a Netscape/Mozilla user, I can't remember when I became a Firefox user but really early on. All this time it has been my browser for everything (first) and then for personal use (see below). I have collected stickers, I have met Mozilla Foundation staff, and I even applied a long time ago. +

Sounds right to me.

Interesting discussion in the EU parliament right now: while @EUCommission and #MEP Andreas #Schwab celebrate the #DigitalMarketsAct as a success, #Google competitor #Ecosia slashes it as "utter failure" and calls for a revision #DMA 2.0 to "step up the game".

Their argument: one year in the law has led to zero change on the market.
